Whitianga

I am after some advice have my dad coming up from nelson next Wednesday looking at the weather east coast looks best for Thursday and Friday thinking about heading to Whitianga for the night never fished out of there before, can anyone suggest a couple of areas to try i've seen people catch kings under the mackerel in the bay, where would one try softbaiting for snapper or trevally? 

My boat is a Stabi 1410
