NZT- Dave ...did you fish or play with your new toy or what?Wink

I got picked up at 6.30 and we headed to 'Lil Munro after a quick stop at TC Riverside to top up the bait.

The morning was so damn nice that we should have been out before sun rise in reality, however we thought dead lo tide was 5.30am so flag it 'til lines in the water about 730 when the tide had moved and so we fish the incoming until 1140.

We cruised out to the favourite 22 yard line of Kaka and pretty much go into them straight away... only one throw back... we fished a straylined 2 hook bait rig with ball sinker on top of the 1st hook and then messed around with different softees on the light sticks.

We sort of covered an area and length of bream bay and then come back and drifted on a slightly different angle, figured out where were were getting bites and when were weren't and so kept moving back to drift back over the bite path and bingo some fine fish came up. We continued this until just before high...

Had a drive over and a sniff into Smugglers Cove...all quiet there... and then went in to Reotahi and had a few driftas and Stevo scored the fish of the day a fat 5 pounda on a softee, was a very spirited fight.
So the SB's won today scoring the bigger fish, bonito seemed to hae reasonable take, but pille and mullet was quiet on the baity stuff, and didn't get to try squid today, birds were quiteish too.

And so that was us...six top fish 3..3...3....4.7...4.8...5 and I have just finished carving up , some will be baked soon and 2mro the rest will be marinaded Tongan style Clap

So a nice quick morning fish, no giants but hey we have a damn big plate of fillets in the fridge...so who needs to catch their limit.Thumbs Up

Nice fish there Catchalot - think you got the best of the day.

Didn't get out 'til midday - it was bloody beautiful at 0600. So yeah, just played with my(self) Big smile new toy . Got to say I'm mighty impressed! Fish seperation was awesome. Still learning to drive it though as there are a fair few features. Can't wait until StructureScan gets here in December!!!!
Flicked a couple of softies but was mainly just getting close to the work ups to see what was on the screen so missed a few takes. Few bites but no real takers, Then out to 3 mile, up to the old woman, round to Oceans and then back into the harbour. By that stage the wind had really got up so she was a bit sloppy. Stopped out side Parua and got a few throwbacks and lots of KYs. Back home by 1900.
Oh yeahm still need to work out how to export my fishing marks off the old sounderEmbarrassed. Plugged the old card in but just didn't happen.

Sounds like some good fish being caught at the moment and the weather's been pretty accomodating too.
Took my sister and girlfriend for a quick fish on friday evening. We planned to head down to Ruakaka but the southerly wasn't all that comfortable so pulled up half way between the four poster and the power station. threw out the burley bag and waited about 10mins for the first bite with the girls saying 'its too rough' bla bla bla. Anyway, once we got the first bite they pulled in gurnard after gurnard, often two at a time for a couple of hours. I barely got a line in the water as i was rebaiting hooks, untangling lines and de-hooking fish continuously. Not my ideal fishing trip but got plenty for a feed. All up we kept 17 gurnard and must've released at least the same.

Went out for a scallop dive early Saturday morning too. Smugglers was fairly barren but managed to find some inside the harbour. Used two tanks for 40 so not the best. The water was freezing, the scallops were in mint condition.
I love catching fish. But fishing isn't always about catching.

Good report chaps...keep up the kaka reports its a bloodeee big bay there so the fish and gannet workups can be all over.

We saw the trawler working up and down about 3 miles off Whanga-Vegas entrance and down to Waipu, may have been the pilchard boat but...yeah ...hate seeing them in so damn close...even if they do catch for the local bait fish market.Thumbs Down

Change of plains going to keep the cork now, I'll hang it in the carport & reglass the whole hull on the weekend.
Worked out cheaper buying $300 worth of glass than spending $1500 on the Alumine boat to get it ready.

Hey Dave got the trailer sorted too?

Might be doing an overnighta mish on Sat at Oakura... after Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane pulls all boats off the road, arrests every fisher and taxes their catch.LOL

Might be taking Lady Admiral out...should be fun

Yea boy,
We had disaster morning bro over from england so planned an early morning mish before the wind on sunday! boat trailer blew tyre on way to pick me up finally got that sorted and left bro on side of road:) boat finally in water at 8 but had to be back by10.  Quick mish, sounder was buggered to so had to guess depths:)
first spot too shallow, second spot little nibbles but still too shallow third spot bam!!!!
we constantlly hauled in good fish the other two were using bait and it was slow for them but i had the soft bait going off! first fish was a 5 pounder then some good smaller pannies then i got a massive hit and run full drag and still running only using 6lb braid so took my time and lander a solid fish, no scales on the boat but it felt and looked bigger than my pb of 15lb, ill post a photo when i get one from my bro, but aLL IN ALL MEAN FISHING, BACK IN ONE HOUR:) Great start to the day!
