Wellington Fishing Report

The Albacore tuna have arrived on the west and the south coasts these last 2 weeks. I have had reports of some good catches with numbers of fish present some days then sparse fishing on other days. Anyway get your lures, jigs and baits ready and give it a crack. All you need to do is find the bluewater or birds working in water deeper than 75mtrs and troll some lures (8 knots), speed jig or strayline baits. So far the fish are averaging 6kgs but that could change over the next few weeks. I have heard of fish up to 30kg caught but this is yet to be confirmed. We caught an 8ker off Sinclair Head this week in 17 degrees

Snapper and kingfish continue to be in good numbers on the West coast and Wgtn Harbour. Chris Shepherd fro17m ''Anti Ants'' caught his 1st snapper - a 20lber at the Makara fenceline with us on Melicent on Saturday evening.

Point Jenningham and Halswell continue to be kingi hotspots and Ward Island and Eastborne are the good snapper spots. A 16lb snapper was caught around Ward on Sunday morning.
The Puka have come back on the bite after the big tides of two weeks ago. Fishermans, Makara and the back of mana are all producing fish up to around 20kg

We hooked another 6-8 kingis last sunday off the sth coast and landed one 15kg and one 30kg. The bluenose are back at the trench - both sides and the 78mtr (westcoast) rise has been going off on the puka. Snapper are still around most spots in harbour and on the west coast. Albacore tuna are wide of Mana and Kapiti and buttefly tuna have been caught too. Chris Shepard with a 20lb snapper caught on Melicent at Makara recently

Winners never quit and quitters never win.

Last Wednesday saw Wavecrusher, Finnie and I fish Kapiti and surrounds. We jigged over lots of sign on the drop off and b.bank but no luck, headed out wide for a try at some big tarakihi but slop and no bites sent us back in close. Then we fished north of Kapiti, 40m on the sand, over the sunniest portion of the day. Heaps of KY working all around us and a few penguins.

In the end we caught 15 pannie snapper (1- 1.5kg) between 3, 2 gurnard and a few jack macks for bait. As per usual for the west we caught no undersized snapper. Also released a fair few nice kahawai. We fished for quite a while to get the snaps, burley working intermittently on the bottom in 40m. Water temp was 16.4 mostly. Nice day out with good company, some snapper sashimi and light refreshments.

Big hands

So i know the weather is rather rubbish outside but a quick look at metservice and there appears to be a window on saturday. Are any plans been hatched? I was initially thinking south coast (as its easy for me) but the 3-4m swell is putting me off. So it will probably be somewhere west. Would be keen to know what peeps are upto. Cheers.
