Supposed to be Northeast in the morning so the west could be ok. Looks like the water temp is dropping but still climbing up in the Naki. I reckon the first Marlin could be on the cards up there over the next couple of days

blowing its guts out on south coast. just watched a madman in a small boat head out past barrets towards 5 mile...desperation must have taken hold as its 'capping pretty bad.

made me wonder if there are any humurous "desperation to get out fishing stories" people can share?

my welly>naki>welly solo marlin hunt in under 24 hrs a few years back probably tops my list...funny now but i was pretty knackered after!

share your stories!

I was amazed to see 8-9 trailers at twin bridges at 8am this morning. It must have been blowing 15-25knots.

Lucky Bugger!

It has been a bit hit and miss on the west coast.  There may be a bit of a window tomorrow evening for a quick trip out.

Boat owners- need an experienced boatie, fishing buddy or scuba diver?

Hi, I'm Richard. Although a boat of my own is on the cards before long, I am checking to see if there are any boat owners in the area who would like to get out more, but struggle to because they don't have crew to join them and share in the fun/work. As I am self employed, mid week days are easy for me usually.

I have over 380 scuba dives completed, know my way around boats and maritime radio. I am a safe, experienced recreational fisherman and successful crayfish hunter. I know some good spots for fishing and diving around Kapiti, and am good to help with cleaning the boat and launching/retrieving it, as well as fuel costs. I also know how to fillet fish and have experience driving a powerboat in some pretty vigorous seas.

Let's go fishing! I'm a good listener and a good guy to be around.  :)

Got out off paraparaumu beach last night for a couple of hours as I saw a green rating on swell map which was somewhat unbelievable. Water was dirty as and was still a bit of a swell so I thought I was the only silly bugger heading out (well I saw one other boat). Went to about 50m to get away from from the dirty water no luck, moved in to 20m deployed burley no luck, mate suggested trying 10m as a last effort - just on change of light got a decent gurnard, big kahawai and a decent snapper in the last 30 mins (lost another around anchor rope - number of expletives) if we could have stayed out later I think there definitely would have been more action but three varieties for dinner was good enough. Guess the old advice fish your feet first remains true even if it looks like a extra muddy puddle.

Got out to the trench yday for a BNose fish. Sea was calm enough but the tide was ripping. Made for very tough fishing. Did manage a couple of target species and a couple of very large Mackeral. Got several very small couta too which I've never come across before. Great for bait but not what we were after. Only saw 2 other boats in the area, 1 who came from further towards Palliser direction and 1 other who was more west of us. Don't know how they got on. Tried for a Teri at Turakirae later  but was like fishing in a river! took 3 drifts to get it right and no bites so pulled the pin. Working today so hope everyone that gets out today manages to get a feed too! Beaut day for it!

Nice day out west today - got a good mix - 6 gurnard, 2 snaps, 1 55cm trev, 2 blue cod, and heaps of kahawhai. Trolled for tuna for quite a while in 17 degree water but no joy. Seems they're late this year.

Went out west this morning early, i had a feeling it would be a not so good fishing day when i forgot to take off my transit straps from the trailer and almost sunk my boat when launching, then smacked the trailer into a marker pole crushing the guard, I think i prefer evening fishing, anyway my last time out I made out i was a gun fisherman, The fishing gods have put me in my place, and today lots of kahawai which would have been ok except i was after snapper and I only got 1 of those. Now planning a mid week evening session , Ps no photos, unless you like photos of empty chillybins.
Thank you to the guy who helped me this morning at the ramp  and was able to contain his laughter

I was out fishing last week and came across a descent school of fish (puka) so I set the boat up for a drift and we did three drifts 3 puka. The 4th drift i had a newbee on board and he managed to catch us, we spent 30 mins un tangling the braided mess and it was like someone hit a switch as i did 10 more drifts through the school and caught zero.
Does anyone have any theories on turn of the tide bite times?

Superb day out on the West Coast with Don yesterday (Thanks again Don). A few Tarakihi, a Blue Cod, Kahawai and a Snapper, but the highlight was seeing a 2m+ Sunfish breaching and wallowing in the sun in 15m water right beside us, just off Boom Rock. Amazing fish!

Back to work today and tomorrow, but very keen to get out midweek again if anyone's needing a boatie.

Hi new to this, was spooled by something in puk bay yesterday.
my thoughts was big bronzy, judging by the surface splash. Had full brake and pressure on the spool but still made no difference to the rate of line disappearing, reel is a 6500 baitrunner, line parted and went with a crackCry. Anyone else had this.

We had the same thing between puk Bay and plimmerton in 20m Thursday last week. Don't know what it was, but there way no stopping it. I was using a heavy soft bait rig, so could have just been a kingi or something. We tried a live bait on the bottom with no joy. No big signs on the sounder, so possibly a big ray on second thoughts
