I'm building a foldable rimu table for my house bus on a pedestal leg. The leg is central, aluminum 55mm with a tapered plastic fitting each end which inserts into a mounting plate on the floor and underside of the table. There is far too much movement between the insert and mounting plate. One bump and drinks would go flying ( not a welcome scenario at all).
Question is, how could I add more stability without adding more legs?

Change the fittings that you are using.  I had a similar table when we had a motorhome.  I can't remember what the fittings were but don't remember there being any plastic in them.  Two things will make it stable, the fit between the pole and the socket it goes in to and the length of the pole that it in the fitting.  Pretty sure the fitting on the floor was like an inverted top hat with nothing sticking up out of the floor when the table was not fitted, the pole was a good fit and didn't wobble around.

Those fittings cost about $120 so I'll be sticking with them for now. I saw those flush mount fittings but not practical here as the water tank is up high under the floor.

is the base and pole going to stay in position? Non rotating? I'm thinking there are some really good epoxy type products around these days or even the grout 2 pot mix used in concrete bolt holes. Do away with the plastic though.

The weight off the table top is what's mainly contributing to the instability issue.

Problem sorted, replaced the entire pedestal with a higher quality and $269 later. Just need to trim down some bolts and paint the bits that hold the sides up. Thanks for your suggestions.
