Hi all,

I'm new to the forum but not new to fly fishing (salt and fresh).  I've just finished watching the the Green Tide DVD and I am mad keen to get out!!

I am based in Auckland, have a small boat big enough for 2 people only, I prefer to stay close to land but I have all the safety gear except an epirb.  I have been out to Waiheke and to the Cavalli's from Matauri bay, in good weather.

Mostly I'm looking for company and cost sharing.  I am happy to take any keen fly fisher out for a fish.  I also like softbaits when the the wind etc. is nasty.  I'll also be keen for land based action.

I work on a 4 on 4 off roster that started today so I often have midweek days to fish as well and this will be when I'd be most keen e.g. next Monday and Tuesday.

Nice boat... you should find some company here no problem, the way fuel prices are these days it gets even more essential to have peole along to enjoy the experience.

Hi Jofly,

I'm just getting into SWF too! Haven't done any so far. I am keen to meet up with others.

I also have a boat (Marco 480... with an EPIRB) and it fishes 2 comfortably. It's got a 60hp 4stroke so is cheap as chips to run.

I just need a bit more time to set my gear up and I'll be keen to get out there!
What's the cheapest type of meat? Dear balls. They're under a buck.

Cape Vidal by any chance or somewhere in Mozambique judging by the sand dunes?

Thanks Clark, I hope I will be meeting a bunch of people and doing lots of fishing!

Little Kingi(Trev) Jaapie?  It's one of my biggest saltfly fish so far Cry.  I caught it in Tonga in October last year on Atata Island.   Didn't do much fishing but was very happy with that one on an 8wt trout outfit with 100yards of 20ld backing and a 10lb tippet...it went like hell!!  Planning on going to Vavau at the end of August...spear and fly fishing with mates.  Should be great!

Never did go to Mozambique but spent a weekend at Mapelane on the east coast, north of Durban.  That was real good but a bit early for the shad.  Did manage more than the bait guys though...It really got to them...LOL

welcome, if the fish in your avatar is your biggest on fly so far, you came to the right place.
Might have to upgrade a bit from an 8wt though. There is a few people here who owns a bit of fly gear, so you should get some good advice when needed.
Just dont get any of those big bulky Mako reels.......

hey mate, I'm keen for a fish out int he gulf. Haven't been out for a while so would be keen to see what is out there at the moment. Have Bonito 585 and needs a run to clear the dust off her.  Let me know when you plan to go out.

This is the biggest one, also Tonga.



Have upgraded the trout gear last year to an 8wt Xi2 and SA Sytem 2 large arbour reel (890) with an extra spool.  I have a bunch of lines/shooting heads for this.  It doubles as my saltfly and tongariro setup.

The one spool is setup with 300yards 50lbd backing, 50ld rio slickshooter and 3 heads, floating, intermediate and Type 8.  The type 8 is almost to heavy for the 8wt and I will try using it on my old 10wt for the bigger stuff.  The 10wt is a Cabelas one so it can be sacrificed...LOL

I do need a 10/12 reel and extra spool sometime in the future for when I buy a 12wt.  But I won't do that until I know where and how to get kingi's regularly.  Not sure what reel or rod  either.

I thought a vikinngs imensly powerful arms would be able to cope with a mako? a second is coming....
