I caught a 51cm tarakihi the other day. I haven't caught many of this species and can't say I'm overly excited by them, but my mate seemed to think it was a good one. How big do they get?

Thats a good one. Max size prob around 60. We caught 10-20 last w/end around 40cm and considered them better than average/decent fish.

The Shimano Measure comp hall of fame has leader/s at 56cm, 50th at 51.5cm.
In 2018 you'd be coming second equal...
Thats a nice fish MB

Why choose either diving or fishing when you can do both. Besides crayfish tail is very good bait!!

Haha, I knew someone would say that! Yes, they're good, but I don't get too excited about eating fish. We have fish four nights a week, Mrs MB won't have it any more than that! Anyway, my rule: if I go out on someone else's boat, they have the offer of all the fish I catch. It's the least I can do.

The fish of the day. Sorry, there's nothing to give scale in the photo.

I didn't notice any difference in taste. They live in the same sort of habitat so assume they eat the same food.
