Hit the kaimais Saturday herd a few but no shots taken

I nearly crashed into two fallow on Saturday night and we could see 4 from my mates deck, can't shoot them though ....

They wernt roaring a few weeks ago in eastern ruahines, we got 2 stags but were slim pickings, my father inlaw is down there now a few roaring now and he shot a spiker

Just back from 4 days in the northern Kaimanawas. The roaring is irregular but we managed to pick up three 8 point Sika. Hopefully they get going a bit better this week and the weather holds off.
Stand up to be seen, speak up to be heard. BUT shut up to be appreciated.

Four days in from Wairata over last weekend. Successful but hardest year in 20+ for us. Was difficult to get them riled and they would just move the hinds away into difficult country. Too much foot and dog traffic over summer in our area making them wary.

I spent almost two weeks in the Kaimanawa FP, rained most of every day, roar action was slow to non-existant. Saw 6 stags and 15 hinds, plus this fella I shot on the last day while looking for a meat animal to take home. 

Working hard to get the easy ones.

Will head up in behind Taupo from now on.

It's a VX1 4-12x40, bit of an overkill for bush hunting, open sights would have been overkill at the range I took him at though, under 8m. 
It's got some rubber tubes over the ends to keep rain off the lenses probably makes it look longer and the angle the rifle is on doesn't help? 

That rifle is off to be chopped and suppressed tonight, I might get a 2-7x33 before it comes back.

Thankfully the idiots tend to stay fairly close to their cars. I think the rain kept allot of people at home too, I came home on ANZAC day. I don't think many hunters were hunting, they were all sitting beside their cars out of the rain Wacko

Brilliant! But yea I hear what your saying about over kill.  I have a VX1 3-9x40 and shoot deer 5m away with it.
