1:30 to 3pm in the harbour, took home 9 snapper, 2 trevally between my daughter and I. The photo posted was taken 20 minutes into the session which gives an idea of the amount of fish and how aggressively they're feeding in our harbour at the moment. About the same amount received a tag. Biggest snapper landed went 50cm.

Gave the harbour another crack today, this time with Mrs looking to get in on the action. Chose a different spot but within the same area as yesterday. Had quite the issue with brown slimey weed. Some large clumps getting stuck on the lines and quickly at times. But decided to persevere through it as there was plenty of fish amongst it. There were some solid trevally lurking in 1.5m (1 hr before low) that tested our skills and patience while negotiating our way around multiple lines. Landed several trevally over 50cm, kept two of them and four snapper. Most of yesterday's catch has been shared amongst friends.

Kitno
Are you Tauranga or Bowentown end of the harbour? Only ever fish the shallows in the evening (Tauranga end) but your posts will get me trying day time.

Thanks
Ted
Simon's situation was grave so he used gravy.

Fished the shallows in the Tauranga end of the harbour near omokoroa on saturday and the fish were very aggresive between 1230pm and 230pm when we left. Got plenty of snapper over 40cm (great condition too) and trevally on the strayline.  Also plenty of yellowtail mackerel on the flasher right under the boat which kept us busy and needed to stop as took too much focus from snapper fishing. Took a feed and more bait home as i went out with which is a great result.

Outgoing tide is going great from the shallows, need to figure out where to be for the incoming.

Took  my neighbour out for a fish last Thursday.  First stop was the Penguins where we managed a few kahawai for fresh bait and some trevally for sashimi.  Next stop was out a bit wider on a relatively shallow knoll where we sent down some kawahai and trout strips.  as soon as the baits got down we both loaded up onto good bluenose.

next drop I pulled up some pups and my neighbour pulled up a gemmy

We then headed out a little wider and dropped a bait down 600 m in hope of a sword - no joy in this department

We then dragged some lures back to Motiti where we managed a few snaps

We camped overnight and managed another couple of better snaps in the morning and a couple of bugs

Plenty of good fresh fish to keep friends and family happy for a day or two

Got out yesterday
Bad wind and man the brown weed! Worst I have seen the weed for years.
Heaps of kys but called it quits as the wind and weed did me in.
Give it a crack this Saturday I reckon.
Cheers

Got out this morning even though said it was going to be windy. Was very glassy in the harbour as it must of blown through last night. Some good fat snapper in 4m on the incoming tide in the upper harbour. Well worth trying a new spot on that tide.
Plenty of weed after first 1.5 hours so packed up well before end of the tide.

Tried a different harbour spot today that I'd seen on Google earth. It was narrow winding channel with a few guts off either side now and then. We stopped a short way up in 2.2m at 8am for a 9:03am low tide. The water was murky after all the rain we've had but the dreaded brown weed was nowhere to be seen. With conditions in absolutely stunning mode, it was possible to see signs of life all around us. We stayed there until 10am with 6 or so small kahawai and one 34cm snapper.
That wasn't quite scratching the itch for us so decided to head further up the channel until it was 1.2m deep. With the channel being unmarked and the murky water around, navigating it was a challenge. Baits and berley were deployed and it was all on. A steady stream of snapper came our way creating chaos at times with lines crossing over. These shallow waters can make snapper do big sideways runs at times. A few tags were handed out. I must have tagged over 100 snapper in Tauranga Harbour by now. 13 were kept ranging between 34 and 56cm.
All of these fish appear to be in excellent condition, fat and pink with bulging bellies. Looks like crabs were their recent food of choice.

The forecast today was too good to miss an opportunity. Another shot at the harbour shallows but with a slight difference. Thought we'd give softbaits a go aswell. Managed to catch a few on softys but the dead baits ruled supreme. Stopped at a spot to catch some bait first and headed up. Anchored in a metre and all hell broke loose. 2 minutes into it and landed a nice 50cm snapper. Smallest snapper caught was 38cm. Most were 45cm+. Kept 10 and tagged 4 I think. Epic day again and friends and family will be enjoying fresh fish. I've started a Facebook page dedicated to "Tauranga Harbour Fishing " for those that may be interested. It won't stop me reporting on the forum though.
