You need to use the 'Post Reply' link above this Quick reply box.
Then when you want to do the pic you go to the download link (the box with a pic of a tree) and it asks where the pic is (prompt box asking you to drag files). It will be in one of your files - so search til you find it. Click on it and follow the prompts for upload.  It will turn up in the LH column of the page. Click on it. Then you can preview it is the right pic (RHS of page) - click on OK at the bottom of that, job done.
Going by memory here, but that is the basic format.

Which works great if said photo is on your computer. Come on how many of us bother to do that. Which means I have download it of my phone bla bla all of a sudden, I can't be bothered.

Face book it's straight from phone to site. Done.

FB has a whole different platform, the forum will struggle with some functionality but there are a few downsides to FB too :)

That is probably correct - I post from my laptop. But the pics come from my phone - just transfer them to the laptop.
I have managed to escape the FB era. Never used it. Never missed it.

My phone is supposed to be linked to my laptop   but ..... nah . I usually just email the pix to myself ( email is linked ). I used to be able to use a usb cord and copy from ph to pc  but then #ucking microsoft barged in with updates I  didnt want  and now it doesnt  work ..... neither does the hdmi to the TV ........ but then we got a smart TV and it didnt matter
ugh! , Having said all that this site is easier than some others to post files  and I have not had an issue that wasnt my own doing .

A common theme I here from fishermen if I mention the forum is " they seem a clicky bunch" .
I guess it's daunting for a new member especially if there's a fear of not being welcomed or accepted.

But any new members asking questions always get lots of helpful responses? I think people go out of their way to help them?
But yes - it may seem cliquey - you have a dwindling number of people posting - so a narrow range of contributors, vs the possible number of members.. FA posted earlier in this thread that one trip report got something like 900(?) views (and B all responses).
So it makes you wonder how many members there are. But only a small %age bothered to post stuff. Why?

An annual comp, some free bees, a monthly measure mat comp are all great ideas. Or even better how about annual catch up! Pick a pub in your region,  people could go to their closest location and meet face to face, there could even be a few disagreements settled, haha. That's how clubs and people passionate about a  hobby used to stay connected, I could walk past any one of you on the street and wouldn't even know, what a sad world we live in.

Good questions here.

For me there are a few observations:
1. Access/login challenges: I have been reading but not posting as I had to clear all cookies and passwords etc. and reset my work PC completely then, when I hit the "forgot password" button I have not received a password reset email.  I tried a few times then just left it and yes I have checked my spam folder etc. (most recently was this morning but I have tried a few times over the last couple of months)

This morning I remembered that I had logged in to the forum on my phone a while ago and the password was saved there so I was able to log in then reset it from my phone browser.

2. The website is setup for use from a PC and doesn't have the ease of use of apps designed for use on phones. This means folks won't check it when out and about or fishing etc.

3. Picture posting functionality: Yes, I know how to load pics from my PC but I also don't have my phone pics syncing to the laptop I have set up on my desk as it's my work laptop and I guess I am too lazy to get out my personal laptop, wait for photos to sync etc.

4. Cliques in the forum: this is a less prevalent here than it is on Facebook I think BUT there was a period when someone would ask a question / make a comment and one or two would just launch into replies that had errors in them and were belittling (that doesn't happen now).

On the positive side the info shared, comments made etc. on fishing.net are generally much more positive, useful and engaging than the dross on FaceBook. (both have their issues with occasional racist bull**** but that's just humans being prats).  While I am a member of a couple of fishing groups on Facebook I rarely post there either.

Also, from a personal perspective I know my fishing knowledge / skill is a LOT lower than many of you folks here. I'm a rank amateur and am slowly figuring out what works for me.

I am one who has been a member of this forum for quite a long time but haven't posted lately. Lack of posts mostly due to the fact that I haven't been fishing as much as I used to. A few health issues and lack of crew don't help either.  I have been reading with interest the topic string on getting older. At 67 I'm still a young bloke compared to some who are still posting so there is hope for us yet! I still regularly visit the forum website though, and while there are many fewer posts than earlier times, at least a lot of the non-fishing/abusive/political/immature etc nonsense that used to be posted here seems to have faded away. That is a very positive thing. I for one will still use the forum and post if I have anything worthwhile. Last trip didn't fit the "worthwhile" bill - long tramp past the Gulf cable zone for only two keepers.

Any reason why the forum can't be marketed on Facebook, maybe it would attract some active members. Invitations to a forum comp with results only available here.
