Hi
I have a large irrigation pond that I would like to stock with fish.   It seems as though trout are not an option so I was thinking of coarse fish, perch tench etc. Does anybody know how I can get live fish to release in the pond? Can I buy them? I can't seem to find any info on this anywhere. I am in Canterbury near Rakaia.

Cheers
Andrew

It is illegal to transport and release coarse fish in New Zealand. Perch can be legally farmed but you have to have aquaculture facilities that are self-contained and not connected to any natural waterway. There is a fairly long and arduous process involved in getting the necessary permits to set up a perch farm. The Mahurangi Technical Institute were doing a lot of work in Perch Farming but there aquaculture operation now looks to be sold off into separate entity. You would have to ring Mahurangi to find out more.
