If its super calm and right conditions would it be a good idea to have a look out at Piha / Bethels Beach / Murawai?

My two cents. I dive around Port waikato a fair bit when conditions allow, mainly for crays on tanks ( sorry ). Your problem is most of the time the vis is pretty poor. I would have to use a torch on about 80% of my dives with arm length viz very common.
I think vis being so important while free diving there would be a lot of failed trips before you struck a premo day. Unless you lived on the beach and your time investment to check out the conditions was low you would be better off checking out an east coast spot with a much higher chance of actually being able to see.
THERE ARE TWO KINDS OF FISHERMAN, THOSE WHO FISH FOR SPORT AND THOSE THAT CATCH SOMETHING.
