Hi, moving my family to the gold coast in the new year and thinking of taking my smartwave 4200 over with me instead of selling as boat prices are weak atm, anyone shipped to aus before or know of any good companies??

Hi, I'd look at prices in Aussie (maybe you have).If they are similar, I'd put that one on the market and if it sells, then just buy one there. Saves the hassle and worry of shipping. They don't always make it unharmed. If it doesn't sell, then take it.

Hi- I shipped a much larger 6m (8.5 on trailer) boat from oz to akld last year. That cost approx 5k incl insurance and delivery to port of Melbourne (approx 40km I think). Going the other way I would guess should be similar as the vessels are essentially round tripping- it could be less ( the vessels are car import vessels off loading cargo here)- but am not sure. As it’s personal possession that won’t be sold in Aus there should be no tariffs. There’s a big second hand market in Aussie but like everywhere certain boats are more desirable there than they might be here- I have seen much better value in used glass boats there and worse value for NZ built alloy boats there. Do your research and good luck- my gut feel is 5k should more than cover a boat like your smart wave cheers

It was all pretty easy. The two key issues are making the overall volume ( heightxlengthxwidth) of the boat incl trailer as small as possible- so remove rocket launchers, t tops, biminis etc if fitted, if the outboard comes off I would be minded to bubble wrap in boat etc etc. Tanks must be empty- no oil or fuel at all. I found the port agents really helpful both sides of the ditch. You can get charged storage per day if there’s a delay in collecting once you have cleared customs- so avoid that at all costs- it racks up fast. Will get paperwork out and post shipping co/ agent when back home cheers

Hi - two companies were involved in boat from Aus to NZ- EDI international freight management in Australia - who handled that end - and Mccullogh in Auckland- both were really easy to deal with and straightforward re docs etc . I would recc either if they can help. I am sure one company pretty much arranged and coordinated the other .

Prices have jumped up since we did it on 2002,now 11k to 13 k 20ft container. Still cheap if you look at buying new contents/vessel

You will get some looks from the Aussies with that boat. Generally Aussies best tinnie boats are imported from NZ. They have heavy fibreglass like Noosa cats etc and light rough tinnies as a main. I lived opposite a boat ramp and would check them out daily walking dog. Haines around  but a lot of stabis/ospreys/extremes and their bar crushers. A good boat there is expensive.  Your rig is perfect fulla. Crab pots in the mud then troll the inlet for flatties mangrove jacks, to the mouth for choppers queenies trevally then over the bar trolling for spaniels tunas to the reef for pearl snapper, empowers plus a 100 other species then rinse and repeat.
