Trip Report for Waihau Bay
Day 1
We left Auckland Saturday morning and arrived around 4pm at Waihau bay for a two day fishing trip. Slept at Carmen's place by the Cape.
Watched the All Black's game. Launched at 5:20am, as the ramp was choker blocked on Sunday morning with a totall of 147 boat's that launched for the day.
We headed for the 1900m mark out of Lottin Point .
Lure's in at 7:35am and within 40 minutes we were hooked up to our first SBT. Karl Potter on the gimbal and the first fish was landed after 30 minute's. Was a goodie, weighting in at 50kg.
Trolled around again and found fish at 1950m and bang, hooked up to a double.
Landed first of the double after 35 minute's. Second fish was landed after 1hour and 20minutes as this was a big and angry fish which was not coming up to the boat. He stayed away from gaffing range.
Landed that and head back to Waihau Bay.
Weighed fish at the ramp at 5pm.
1 x 75kg
1 X 50kg
1 x 48kg
Back to where we stayed. Gutted all the fish and straight into the chiller.
Was a big day for the lad's.
Day 2
Monday morning, there was a small weather window as wind was reported to pick up by around 1:30pm.
Again left Waihau Bay at 5:40am and reached 1400m mark at 7am. Lures in water. Saw lots of dolphin's and pilot whale's, trolled around the 1900m mark. Bang, double hooked up to a triple. Dropped two but we saw a very big SBT taking the lure on the rigger n dropped it (bugger).
Got my 80-year-old dad (Muhammad Ismail) on the gimbal and he played with that only fish which was still hooked.
After 30 minute's we landed his fish which was around 45kg.
Trolled around the 1500 meter mark and hooked up again. Landed the fish just over 30kg.
At this stage the wind wind picked up and we called it a day. Decided to head home as it got rough.
1 x 45kg
1 x 30kg
All fish were caught on my dad's hand made lures and that was the icing on the cake for this trip

That's us for this year at Waihau Bay and we will be doing this all over again come next year. Health and wealth come and go but memories last forever. 2023 a year for close friends and family, and another year in memory books.
