Using a 8 foot CD Extrasense, better casting with a longer rod.

Inshore, lighter stuff - 7'10" Ocean Angler Microwave (the older model). Casts really nicely.
Offshore and big snapper areas (fingers crossed) - 8' Hearty Rise from Go Fish - beautiful rod with plenty of power, but good feel in the tip, and top components
Dragging - a Cousins overhead bought off none other than Muppet (see above). A lovely rod as well.

I attended the Ocean Angler presentation at Top Catch-Takapuna on Thursday (Cheers to Ciaran!) where "OA Dan" displayed their new rod called a "Bender".
Boy, could it bend! Resists 'point-loading' and is really strong. Let me hold it at an upward angle and he just pulled the tip down to the floor.
Fishing technique is to wind 'slowly'.

I have been using 8-9 ft rods, you can cast along ways with 1/8, 1/4 oz heads in shallow water, I'm looking for one that's 10ft now. Just need them with soft tips and power down low.

I am using Offshore made by Rodworx in Tauranga. Great rods but may be pricing themselves out of the market now??

Yep I have an offshore illusion also, Had it for years but never use it, find it's a little to stiff,
Think I'm gonna sell it if anyone interested.

I picked up one of these at Xmas time and it was such an improvement on my previous rod. It's been great!

Hi Viscount,

Can you please post the model number - is it a Generation Black or maybe a Black Label? I am trying to help a mate who's keen on a rod like that you mentioned, but we can't find Daiwa 'Black Out' online.

It's a generation black from marine deals, Daiwa Generation Black Slugger 802MHFS Spinning Rod 8ft 2pc. It says it's 6-10kg I'm running 10lb braid, I can't fault it at all, you could go up in reel size to a 3000-4000 and run 15lb, I got it for the length can't find lighter rated in over 8 ft.

Good to know, thanks for the reply. It's sold out at M Deals, but Go Fish on the shore has it. My mate lives over that way so I'll tell him to check it out.
I'm sure Greg will sell him some cool lures etc as well. Great shop.

It's been mentioned in other threads but Australia is the place to find long light lure rods, and also Japan where they do jigging from the shore.

Make sure you've got anglerswarehouse.com.au on the list, and also Otto's Tackle World.
They both ship to NZ.

I Have 2 Gen Black Diawa rods:
1) Wicked Weasel 2 pc 208cm 2-6kg, easily my favourite rod on the kayak and pulled up snaps to 17lb. Bought back from Aus as couldn't source it here.
2) Black Sniper 4 pc 220cm 4-7kg. Great for casting slightly heavier lures long distance, wouldn't want it any longer on the kayak though.
Both are my go-to SB rods.
