Hi Everybody
I spent 5 days at Roroiti a month ago.      Getting the good oil from Pat Swift that the fish were at Ruato I fished there almost exclusively.     The place was full of fish but the fishing proofed hard for all who were there.     Never had it so tough in all the years I have jigged this lake.    Averaged about 3-4 per day.

Cheers

 Rainbow .

Decided to hit the lake again this morning, but for a change of scenery, I launched from Hinehopu. With the easterly rising, I hugged the northern shoreline and found a sheltered spot just around the corner from The Papatu point. The fishing wasn't fast and furious, but bring in a kayak, I didn't have much option expect got grinding it out and hoping to find some obliging fish. There were plenty of fish on the sounder, but very few playing ball. Eventually there was a bit of fishy action, with a few deciding the flies being used looked the business. In the end, the result was 5 fit rainbows and a mild case of hypothermia. Managed two cracking jacks of 4.1kg and 3.6kg, which made the suffering through the cold breeze worth the effort.

You have been doing well SW.  I was doing well on the lake last year but have been struggling this year and generally only catching 1 or 2 trout per trip. Plenty of fish on the sounder at the eastern end of the lake but they have not shown much interest in my flies. However the few fish I have been catching are in superb condition and have been smoking up well.  I had hoped to catch a few slabs for bluenose or swordy bait, but it is not to be.

Probably best if I stick to bluenose fishing in the Tauranga harbour.

It was a hell of a grind, lots of sign on the sounder, but not the bites you'd expect. All of the fish were fantastic condition, but plenty of offcuts that can be used as snapper baits. They have been the bait of choice for the past few weeks.
