Yep those things are nearly as bad as Ocean Kayaks Tongue

Jeez its been a long time since we had what kayak is best fight eh?

Or has it become that everyone is happy in their various yaks and there really ain't any need to argue that old crap anymore.

I've got both an Ocean Kayak 4.1 prowler elite and a Viking 400 profish sitting side by side in my garage on their respective c-tugs. Hence you'd think would be ideally placed to give an opinion.
I always take the prowler out! I've paddled the profish once and admit it is quite a nice ride, being a bit wider and suiting a fatter person than the ocean kayak. And if anything the profish is lighter. Certainly both these kayaks go through water relatively well.
Of course the wife is very particular as to who (as in doesn't let me) take her lovely burgundy viking kayak out. Reckons I'd get it covered in fish bait, blood and guts... which is a fair assumption.
So I'll vote for the ocean kayak I've owned and had great service from for few years now, every time Dan.

Fair enough shane.

Had a Prowler for a few years the 400 is superior paddling in every way bar it does not have a flared bow so when punching through a chop it can get a bit wet. Versus a Kingfish there is nothing I would rather have, been towed sideways on it LOL

Good to know Dan. I am thinking if I shout her a fish finder for the 400 (she barely uses) I could maybe get to use it a bit more on basis I paid for the fish finder.

Or maybe I should just sneak it out early in mornings before she gets up.

That's a good point. I did think about that but they say is made from a very strong tarpaulin and this and that.. But I believe that I would rather go for a second hand rigid body one. It might be cheaper also :)

Same with everything really, stick with well known brands as they are generally more reliable and if they crap out normally have decent back up service. Everyone knows the reload is best.

I do like the ones from Gramin with GPS also. Strikers are the best in my opinion but Lawrance also looks decent. I think that a 4" screen is big enough for a kayak no?

You get some good fishfinders now at a decent price. Not so long back you were spending $500 on a basic black and white fishfinder. Now there is a great colour range for less.

Have had a few sounders in small.boats and yaks.
You won't go wrong with a Garmin Striker.
I have the relatively small 3.5 inch one on my yak. It's an extremely good unit in a small package and very waterproof. First chirp sounder I have owned and definitely seems an improvement on my past sounders.... which include another larger Garmin (on current boat), and previous lowrance, eagle and ratheon sounders.

Did you guys see the Fish Hunter from Lawrance? I'm wondering if you still need a fishfinder if you have the fish hunter :))
