Went out monday 7th March started trolling at around 80m very quiet no birds working caught 2 Albies at 116m hung around the area for a while. Marked quite a bit of bait which was down deep 45m but no action on the surface other than the Albys.  Arrived back at ramp when Izard was there trying to get his boat off the bottom  and onto the trailer , my mate and a couple of  others came to help him. Didnt know he was a forum member until I read his posts.

Hey lizid, I caught my first 20+lb snapper on Albie. Even caught crayfish on albie.

Interesting that there are no Albs or skips being caught close in this year. With the water temps the way they are it should be thick with them.

Out yesterday went out towards Gannet for a change stopped in 52m biined up easily in a couple of hrs no Gurnard Snappa all 35 to 60cm. Went for a troll came across 2 Marlin at 90m went interested in our lures. They would would swim off and then pop up again There were a few skippys about so guessing they had already been feeding. Was like a game of Cat and mouse following them around. Brought home a few skippys for the freezer, had 13 by the end of the trip.             A good day out.

Hey Muzz .... good sized skippies? spent all day yesterday out towards Mayor Island for a dozen mini skips. Still smarting over the near $400 in fuel I spent on my Raglan trip with no (skippy) result. Snapper city in the harbor here - always is from 2nd week of Feb thru to early May. At night in a meter of water it's not really fishing - more like a harvest.

Went out this morning. Missed the tip over by a few minutes but great to see one boat take on the role of retrieving the boat and a large crew involved in the salvage operation. We shot out to 36m. Straight into them but only small.   Heard a splash and turned to see what we estimated to be 110 - 120kg stripey do 5 - 6 massive leaps out of water and only 20m from boat.   Out to 51m we went. Slow to start and constantly plagued by kahawai so plenty of tangles.   Must have caught 50+ throughout the day.   Highlight of day was a 17 1/2 pounder (77cm) by the brother in law - a Raglan virgin.    Ended with 20 in bin.    Next largest was just under 9lb and a couple more around 6.   Rest were good eating size of around 36 - 40cm. Another awesome day out on the water with Raglan delivering once again

Shot out yesterday from Manu Bay. Headed left to see if we could find anything in the shallows. Not much happening so after an hour we headed west to the 53m mark.   Into them fairly quickly.    Pattern went like... 1 snapper, 5 kahawai, 1 snapper, 5 kahawai, 1 gurnard, 5 kahawai.   Had enough of kahawai so thought we'd move in to the 48m mark for the last hour. Got nothing but kahawai.   Kept 8 for the smoker for a few mates but must have let at least 50 - 60 of them go. Those kahawai keep you on your toes especially with two on at once.   All the characteristics of a big snapper - fighting all the way to the boat.    Great sport fishing and just good to be out again.   Largest snapper went just under 9lb but plenty in the 45 - 50cm range so nice eating size. Glassed off at 1pm making for an easy trip home.
