Shot out of Manu Bay yesterday. Launched at 6.30am with around 5 - 6 empty trailers already in the park. Swell Map was probably spot on - said there would be a 60cm chop and there definitely was. Wasn't too bad though.
Decided to settle on the 48m mark. No sign on bottom but thought we'd give it a whirl and if no luck, then head to the 55m mark. At 7.30am and with only 1 in the bin, the call was made that if nothing more by 8am then we would head deeper. The fish must have heard us as a nice stream started to come in. Fishing never really slowed and we left them biting.
Managed to avoid the sharks with only 2 all day and no barracouta. Also light on the Kahawai front with only 3 caught. Came home with limit of snaps and a few carrots. Didn't matter what bait was used as they were hungry. Got 6 in the 50 - 55cm range and the rest in the 40 - 45cm rang. Also caught quite a few of around 25 - 30cm which you don't tend to get out west so these went back down.
Sounder showed good sign when we started up to come in and saw more sign at 45m so I reckon you'll do well at most depths. Sea calmed off closer in but was still a little lumpy out wide.
Back at ramp by 11am. Approx 25 trailers at Manu and similar in town. Great to eat fresh fish again and nice to be able to share around a few families.
