I don't think Hurrell will be out for to long. Matthew Elliott is probably just showing him there's consequences for being undisciplined and coming back 10kgs over weight after the off season.

Hell yes I cant wait for the NRL to kick off tomorrow night. Greatest sporting comp there is in my eyes. Love the look of the first Warriors team named and for once we have good depth in most positions and good in house competition. All I want from the Warrior boys this year is consistency and 100% effort in every game. I'm a little tired of watching them beat top 8 teams to then lose the following week to the wooden spooners. Got the season tickets sorted and cant wait for the first home game. Go the Mighty Vodafone Warriors......

Sweet Jesus what the hell was that rubbish last night. As I said above all I wanted from the boys this season was 100% effort in each game. I reckon they gave 10% last night. I can handle a loss but only if they put up a decent fight. C'mon boys you are better than that

That was better. I thought Lillyman and Rapira had huge games and Hurrell off the bench and into the second row was a great move by the coach. I'm looking forward to the clash in Welly. Both teams like throwing the ball around and both will be playing with confidence. 2 & 2 after 4 rounds won't be a bad start after a terrible first 2 games.

What a game. Lillyman and Bakuya were great in the forwards, SJs control with his short kicking was brilliant, The Hurrrllicane is back and Tomkins had a great try at the end and some brilliant short passes. Lousi even seemed to work hard and even saved a try.
They will be a pretty confident team now.

attitude and determination was much better last 2 games.
i know its hard to have interest in winning the NRL when aussie teams have a lot more interest and pressure from the public, but the warriors need to find a way to dig deeper and deeper mentally. when they play bad they just look like they have no intensity, they need a coach who will demand it or sack them. i think until warriors get a bellamy type coach they will struggle to have the right mental focus.
never the less, very happy they are not losing site of the 8. sione playing well which is a good sign. tomkin finally did something with the ball of note. johnson is doing well enough. just need a bit more win at all costs week in week out.

I would like to know what Bellamys record is in games played with out Cameron Smith. My guess would be that it wouldn't be that great. Storm were mud with out him against the dogs last week. Nsw were shat when he had that job. Matty Elliots doing all right I reckon. Don't get why he played Mateo injured tho. It's game day

Just read about this in the Herald.
How many coaches do the Warriors have to see off before someone at management level starts to understand that there is a massive lack of commitment and a complete lack of accountability within this team?
The entire senior team should be put on notice and made to understand that if they do not perform to the required standard their pay packets will suffer as a result and that continual sub-par performance may mean being shown the door. These guys are (supposed to be) professionals when all is said and done - this is their job FFS! In any other industry many of the current crop would have already been given the "Don't Come Monday" message....
I didn't watch the match as I promised myself after last season's poor
showings that I would not - at least until things showed definite improvement - and
so far nothing I have read to date has tempted me to watch any matches this
season.

Throw caution to the wind against the Bulldogs and play the entire Warriors cheer leaders squad. They are bound to have more athleticism , courage , discipline and determination than the current lot. I think they would naturally create space around the ruck as multiple tacklers rush to get them into the horizontal. They would defend well too, plenty of surrenders when blokes are confronted. Much less ink as well I suspect and the shots of the dressing room would be worth close scrutiny.

Maybe this is what could bring a much-needed turnaround at the Warriors: http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11234422" rel="nofollow - http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11234422
If so, sign him up right away I say.... but more needs to happen. Scurrah and Bell should both go down the road pronto and someone with NRL experience and personal mana hired as a new CEO. Steve Price perhaps?

Why is cappy just beligerantly playing Hurrell in reserve grade to prove a point. Its nuts whats going on at the warriors, KPIs on tackling, how about every time he plays we look 100x better with him destroying it in offense. Nielsen just isnt in the same league despite being reasonably competent on defense. Warriors have never been a good defensive team, so take away the one thing they are good at and they are hopeless on defense and offense. Just seems bloody minded.
Also really over some warriors fans saying real fans are there in wins and losses. Imo real fans hold the team they support (either financially or in voice) accountable for their performance.
On a positive I reckon our FB in u20 is an up and coming star. :-)

Don't understand it either Fiz best defence is offence , Hurrel also hits hard on d. I think dropping Shaun would be a good idea though I've lost count of the bad passes (to ground, no looks to no one and some mean hospitals) When you play that position passing is key. If you cant steer your team around the park and put in a good kick at the end of every set you suucck. If Feleti comes back in with some offloads might help too.

i agree, johnson is the one who needs to be taught a lesson not hurrell. hes just become like locke did, totally complacent. hes no longer one of the better halves, hes nearing the bottom. needs to take the line on more and back himself. they need to start focussing their training on clinical set line moves involving johnson, tomkins and manu. they just looked so predictable last week kicking to morris who is one of the better catches in the nrl.

Mean game last night boys didn't give up on D always good to see, Feleti got a nice try, last play options were decent Johnson played well besides throwing a couple more passes to the ground which were thankfully cleaned up by warriors. Faith restored for this week at least

i think johnson could have done with a spot in the nsw cup not hurrell, as could tomkins. better game, but far from anywhere near potential, id give it a solid C.
speaking of hurrell, what a difference he makes. the guy just ran and ran and ran into the opposition. feleti looks better for the time in reserve grade.
still not enough offloads for the warriors. cappy has coached their natural best out of them, i just hope he realises it before its too late. on the plus side the D focus is paying off, but that should be a given at this level.

Did any one else notice the work Johnson did covering Hurrells ass on D? I Was very impressed with Johnson last night. Running game was good and like I said a couple of covering tackles were superb. Try savers even. Best game I've seen him play in quite a while. I'm a proud Warriors fan today. Also stoked to see how much that game meant to them when the final whistle was blown. Hopefully a turning point for the season.

Who would you play at 7 if Johnson was given a week or 2 in NSW cup? Feleti had an awesome first half. Amazes me how he can look so disinterested and play so bad for 2 or 3 weeks but then turn it on like that. Not the first time he's been dropped and come back from it so well. If he played like that every week til origin 1 he'd make the side.

Johnson will always look bad when the go forward is not working, last night they had great go forward giving the little men time to work there magic. Putting johnson into the reserve grade is pointless, hurrell needed to go to reserve grade because he was getting lazy and his defence was shocking... As good as hurrell is theres some really good up and comming kiwi boys so hes going to have to improve some more.

johnson has gone into his shell, much like locke did. he isnt backing himself or performing close to his ability as a ball runner/play maker. part of the problem is his kicking game has gone to crap and tommy isnt the best kicker nor is townsend. im hoping they hold onto lino and slot johnson to 6 when lino is ready to make first grade as he has a mean kicking game and a good goal kicker.
yep johnson has definitely improved his own D, he use to be as effective as a wet tissue on D, but he faces up now and put his shoulder into it.
ive watched every u20, nsw cup and first grade game this year and i dont see anyone putting in more effort than konnie. i think he needed nsw cup at start of year, but then to bring him back, he plays well they win, then put him back in reserve grade while we lose another couple was just nuts, now hes back we look like we have go forward and win. play our best team. konnie will create more points on attack than he will lose every time.
the biggest thing the warriors need to learn is a new culture of expectation, they need a baseline of defense as a minimum for 6 months of a year, minimum. its not pats on the back because they do well one game. outside that they need a license to thrill when they start getting go forward. also its like the offloads been coached out of them. luckily friend is stealing metres up the middle. but we need more than singular hit ups for 4 tackles every set. feleti provides variety but even he has gone into a shell as far as creativity is concerned.

Lino is along way off 1 st grade, what was wrong with the kicking game last night ? Both Tompkins and johnson's kicks in play were good, johnson had 2 chip kicks that were blocked but I thought in general it was a large improvment

yeah lino is a long way off, we also have a potential super star FB coming through which is good news.
im not refering to a singular game, with the warriors they dont play a season of footy, they do well in patches. johnsons kicking game is inconsistent. hes never going to be stacey jones in that regard so cant expect the world. what he is brilliant at is his touch footy skills, hes a play maker and when he takes on the line i think he looks a lot better. the kicks werent bad last week either, the chase was piss poor. but they had no other plan. its the variety that is the issue, they are relying on the up and under, but last week clearly kicking to morris every kick was a stupid plan. it was like they didnt have any plan to begin with, which is worrying. in saying all that i think they looked to take on the line last night more on the last which is a far better option with someone like johnson in your team or as you said some chip kicks.
my concern isnt how they played last night as they had a pass mark last night, i have high expectations for them to become a consistent team with a pass mark being the minimum. i just want to the see them focus on a season of footy and that to be obvious by their actions week in week out, even if they lose.

again we lose a close one. definitely a better side than than what looked spineless at the start of the season.
i think cappy is a great move as is keeping all the aussies and getting hoff, in NZ we just dont understand what it means and takes to win an nrl, we need that influence to whip our lazy lot at the 60 minute mark, thats when the large majority of games are won and lost. hope lousi is ok, hes got great potential with the right guidance.
just bad handling, defense was immensely better than start of year. more handling skills practise and intensity and i think we are top 8.
konrad, easily the most intense player in the warriors on offense week in week out. manu does a lot too to help out the forwards as he should.
sucks losing the close ones all the same.

totally agree. if we can just get away from defending in our own half 70% of games, provide structure our the back with johnson, tomkins, hurrell, manu running onto it at pace. i cant see many teams handling it. also intensity. they need to go into every game lifke their lives depend on winning. which is not easy for so many rounds. but its what it takes just to make the finals and thats what they are paid for.

Positive signs over the last few weeks indeed. If we eliminate those silly errors and dumb penalties I can see us punishing some teams in the coming months. Very happy with what Cappy is doing with the players and they seem to be buying into it and finally playing as a team. I can handle watching a loss when the boys are putting in the effort and fight. Just need a few more two pointers.

Oh come on bro. The roller coaster is part of the warriors ride. Helps to keep life in perspective and means the ups are truly high. But I know what you mean

i wish i could see it that way, i use to, but i dont want us to be one of those clubs that NEVER win a GF. its like the kiwis just dont have enough understanding of how consistently good you have to be for a very long time (a season AND a finals series) to win a premiership, let alone 80mins to win a single game. as someone who wears warriors gear im supporting that. so if i wasnt a real fan i wouldnt care. but i do. they are far too talented to keep losing games that they had won. thats at least 4 this year.
im probably the most dissapointed and truely sickly gutted ive been after any game they have failed in, including 2 GFs.

funny old game, they played worse than they did against the rabbits but won.
ive seen enough and its with due respect to say, tomkins needs to go home. he should never have tried playing the nrl, its polarising how much harder it is than the uk. he is simply the worst full back the warriors have ever fielded. i feel sorry for him though and wish him well.

I agree with you about the funny game, but very glad to get the 2 points. However I couldn't disagree with you more regarding Tomkins. Yes he does make a few too many mistakes per game but his stats are well up there with the NRLs best fullbacks this season. He makes the mistakes because he is involved in everything. Some of the tries scored recently have been directly attributed to his amazing skills. I can think of a handful of tries that put the boys over the chalk that came from his flick passes. Give the guy a chance to settle in. He arrived at a club that was struggling internally that has seen two coaches with different styles. Tomkins is a class act that will only get better the more NRL games he plays.

we will take the points. Tomkins certainly isn't finding the same gaps as he was in the super league but I would say as an individual he hasn't made the transition well as The Burgess brothers and Graham are some of the best forwards in the NRL. Give Hurrel the ball more is all I can say.

I'll take the two and I'm sure Tompkins will get better, at the end if the day if the boys up front are doing their job he will look real good. Like most backs

I think the fitness level of the bgi forwards in the NRL is a lot higher than in Eng, where whippets like tomkins can look amazing. I think his positional play has been good. But hes shakey under the high ball, doesnt get involved often enough, drops simple passes too often, often misses simple tackles. I think im going to have to disagree, hes just use to being the main man in a comp full of fatties puffing at the 50min mark ;-p
I actually would prefer to see tomkins at 6. But with Fish being out for the season and locke gone, and our next super star being way too inexperienced to step up to first grade, id say hell stay at FB. Although Manu could actually be a mean FB, hes amazing under the high ball now, not sure about his positional play though haha.

i think that game last night is going to lose a LOT of fanbase.
what a pathetic display that second half was. not only did they have them down to no interchanges, they had their big players injured.
yet some how they managed to fold like a deck of cards.
not good enough. heart breaking.

The game in Perth is ridiculous and its border line cheating from South Sydney. It's almost impossible for us to win. As far as the players body clocks are concerned were playing the 2nd half between 12 and 1 am and in the last 20mins the players are physically wrecked. It's why Souths play the warriors in Perth. I was disappointed but that criticism Fiz is very harsh imo.

The Warriors worst ever fullback lol..... Tomkins biggest problem is his size imo. He's pretty small/light for a nrl fullback. Wicked ball skills tho. He's pretty good at creating a bit of space for Hurrell. I would've liked to see him play 6 while Leuleuai was out and have Locke at the back.

They were there for 4 days prior to playing the game, there was no jet lag or excuse for clocking off, to their credit mannering and cappy had no excuses, they admitted they abandoned the game plan. which is what has lost them so many games this year, lazyness, clocking off when the job is half done.
Yeah Tomkins is little, a lot of FBs are small but by NRL standards hes little. Reminds me of willy zilman. My thoughts exactly re while tommy was injured tomkins could have gone into 6. To townsends credit hes a much better player at the warriors, but tomkins needs to be involved a lot more in the play making. Half a season is plenty enough time for him to have proved himself, so I feel my comments are fair. I wish he didnt make so many mistakes, even if he isnt making huge offensive plays, i could live with that, but he makes some brain explosion mistakes.
I respect your opinion, each to their own.
Dissapointing to watch the u20 and nsw cup today. Expected a 3pete.

hard to think what the warriors paid for him, they have a habit of downgrading storm players, hopefully hoffman wont go the same path.

He really was mud. It made me laugh when Manu scored his try, Tomkins (I think it was Tomkins) had to throw the cut out pass missing Neilson so Manu could get his hands on the ball. I cant see him getting a start in a couple of weeks... surely. Great game tho. We're really showing some heart that wasn't there earlier in the season. 3 in a row now at Mt Smart now and still 5 more to go there and away games against the likes of the Raiders and Dragons...I'm getting confident

Agreed Daz, Nielsen is mud. I also saw Manu slap his own legs in frustration when he had space in front of him and Nielsen didn't feed him the ball. He made a few tackles but he has zero x factor. We have an excellent draw for the remainder of the season so my confidence is also high.

oh didnt i say tomkins was our best FB ever? im so happy again. i truely got depression after the rabitohs loss, it made me physically sick.
everything looks good, oh, too soon, i remembered, looks like they are giving nielsen run on spot again, so it looks like he back to 1st grade. i feel sorry for him and all, but we are just finding our way. surely henry is a better choice.

Another huge effort from the boys yesterday against the broken down Green Machine. Its a bloody shame we let the two previous matches get away from us after those epic starts as an extra four points would see us sitting pretty. I hope its a huge turnout next week for the Sharkies game and another two points. I know I cant wait....

A bit like para, Canberra were crap. At least we are winning the games we should be. Our tough run into the end of the season will determine whether or not we're premier contenders.

Johnson and Hurrell back and Fusitua as well I've heard and with Neilsons injury Laumape will be partnering Manu on that left side again. With Johnson back as well it will be interesting to see how many minutes Cappy shares between Friend and Leuleuai. Tough game this week against a Newcastle side high on confidence after beating the Storm and playing at home. We got the team to do it though.
