Got multiple strikes on a yellow an white midsized. From skippies but they all dropped the hook at the end of the first run?????? Was on a lightish 10kg spin out fit.
Yesterday had another go with heaver line on rat kingies. Much better hook sets.
Speedy retreaves is the way to go, faster the better.

Are you using the standard hook that comes with the lure?I have changed all mine over to a Shogun in line single hook & have found a much better hookup ratio.Agree with the retrieve speed, def the faster the better.

The double hook not so good........I bought a couple of the "Daddy" ones from the states that have a big single hook on......the single hook on the smaller ones def seems to tame the action a bit.

yeah mate....they are 168mm and 4 oz but the postage from the states is a crime.........some have two hook points(like in my pic).........so you prob could run two small trebs but why would you?
Am still trying to find the cheapest.....will let you all know.Wink
unfortunately i Ko'd the bottom one off a wharf up north(totally my stupid fault/lot of force to poleLOL)....smashed it to **** but the pilchard one is still going strong.

Use a mail delivery service to avoid the high freight charges. NZ Post has just started one up called You Shop. Basically they supply you with a US postal address that the retailer ships the goods to. Then they contact you with a price to send them to NZ. It usually works out at about 1/3 of the price that the retailer will charge for freight.

I used an outfit called Pre Zoom and it was an excellent service, but they just suspended US operations. One delivery from Melton's was going to cost me $83US in freight. Pre Zoom charged me $19.50 NZ and it arrived within 7 days

i have a you shop account and its useless.i have a couple very cheap items sitting there from ebay that seller wouldnt ship international that i probably wont send to nz as you shop prices are so high.my mate also has one and said it wasnt just me he said they ripped him a good one to.i buy from ebay weekly and just find someone who has set price and you can get multiple items for no extra .the idea of youshop is awesome just havnt had anything that works out.but yea if seller wont send international it is one of the only options.

went out and bought another 138mm 65gm waxwing in pink.i have a jr that has caught many ky

These are the colours available but i am hoping they will do the black/silver this year......I have told the guy i am seeing the interest and will get back to him....so if anyone else fancies ...say here.....If i get enough interest i am sure he will help.Bear in mind the long/strong single hook off the end adds length to the lure.

The green mac looks a bit like a jack mac i reckon......pity they dont do a big daddy in black/silver.......that would go well on nz kings......the blue sardine does look impressive...esp in the flesh.

they had some cheap ones on clearance at burnsco a few months back, but it was the brown colour so i decided to hold off despite the keen price.

I bought a few of the medium sized ones with the double hooks and had strikes on them.....but hook fell out.......one king just head butted it out of the water!....i think sometimes they hit pray and stun it.....then come back and eat it......so no joy really.
I bought the big daddy's but only got to use them twice before i left for perth..........one of them i smashed against a pylon on a wharf/casting(blonde moment/totally my fault).........the other time i tried was on a dead day....I tried everything that day.......the medium and small ones suffered a bit when a inline single was put on them but the big daddy had a great action with that big single hook and looked a good size in the water.....the hook making it look longer...strong hook too........a black/silver in the daddy would do the business on nz kings i reckon but shimano havent got the nounce to make one!.......that would be a good ,all around the world lure in that colour......so they are missing out on business.

Was looking through my stuff and found what i think is a perfect inline hook for the 138 waxwing......top  pic is the daddy waxwing.
I have changed the second one for the hook i found....which is a smaller one of the one on the daddy.....dont know what its off but it looks perfect.
the bottom one has an inline shogun.....
will give them all a cast soon......i found the inline shogun tamed the action a bit......i wonder if its a bit light......the middle one could be good.

We where out not long ago , god boil up of KY, and a couple newbie fisherman on the rods trawling thru/ round.. only ones out there....anyway they busted off a couple good lures.
Never caught anything of substance on the med sized blue off the shelf triple hook wax wing.
Dropped that on ... it hooked up more KY than all the other lures together
lot of fun.

I have caught a heap of blue cod and kahwai on the smaller "boy" size in green mackerel and some trout on the "baby" size in the brown trout colour

Hi are you useing them for sea or trout fishing ? i have used smaller ones for trout and have some luck. Was told to cast out and wind in keeping lure straight to rod tip.
Would be keen to purchase some of those single hooks if you do bulk buy.
I remove most of trebles i can and use singles, hook up fine.
cheers Odinboy
