Looking at getting a JM Ocean Devil stick bait rod, but unsure about buying as I don't have any local shops which stock these rods that I can go have a bend and feel of one. Has anyone used one of these rods? It'll be used for fishing off the shore/rocks with a 5000 Stella. Watched a video on YouTube of the rod lifting a heavy weight and it looks very parabolic which is good, but when a kingfish is trying to get into the rocks I am just wondering if it'll have enough grunt to be able to keep it out will it just bend? I may be completely wrong..

If thats the yellow one I doubt that it would have enough grunt but the red model would
I stock and sell both and have used the red one extensively even at Ranfurly.

PM me if they still interest you as I have one of each for sale on behalf at a good price second hand but barely used.

Yes, I cannot go too far with grunt otherwise the 5000 Stella is not going to match with a pe 4-8 rod which the red one is rated at? I got this reel to have fun catching kingfish so if i get busted off a couple of kingfish on the rocks then that's that. I'm sure that pe 2-5 yellow rod will be fine?

See if you can find a Smiths KGS series rod, they would suit that reel perfectly

Just had a quick search and not find any Smiths rods in New Zealand. Looking to get a rod fairly soon as I want to start fishing with the reel :-D

You'd be looking at $1000 and up for a Smith - Pretty normal for high end Japanese rods.

No doubt that they are nice rods, the Carpenter rods look really good too. Just a bit out of my price range for a rod right now. Thanks for your help.
