I have a quick question for those who jig lighter gear. I have a 100g setup running PE3 which I was using last week. I had lots of strikes but failed to hookup, I was using jigstar ninja 11/0 hooks which I feel may be too thicker gauge preventing the soft tip from having enough power to effectivley set the hook.

Just wondering what hooks others in the same boat use, as I am fishing light gear can you get away with say the run of the mill assists that come with a jig. Prefer not buying hooks with are 3 for $25

have you seen the swf hooks man they use then on tarpon, I got a couple from phill, they are super doper thin sorta scary looking but would penetrate like nothing else... people have been smashing marlin on them to so could handle say 8-10kg drag at a guess

Check out the Gamakatsu 510 assist hooks -

Retail about $12.
Sizes available 2/0, 3/0, 4/0.  These were developed for the slow jigs that are just now becoming popular.

If you want to make your own, then go for the Gamakatsu 4X Strong Octopus hook.  Not quite as grunty as a live bait hook but much stronger than regular Octopus hook.
Sizes available 1/0-10/0

The gamakatsu assists on CWs post are great.
Ive started using them on several different lures. Love the barb on the outside of the point. Very sharp and they dont corrode at all. Great price as well.
