Just wondering, what peoples preferences are when travelling?
I normally travel with mine right up with the tabs down but have been thinking it must be a fair bit of strain on the tilt shaft due to the amount of counter levering.

lower it till it clears the road a fair bit. but any strain on the rams is not good. can you buy a transom saver at all? they work sweet. or make your own one up..

purchase 2 R W O bottle screws from the yachting shop , a length of stainless steel pipe , the length can be determined once the motor is in the most upper position +/- , measure the diameter of the body on the R W O bottle screw the inside diameter of the pipe place the bottle screw in the pipe & tig weld the body to one end of the pipe , cut or leave the eye on at the end of the bottle screw , make a V or U shaped bracket from 25/30mm stainless flat bar tig weld this to the end of bottle screw on the eye or shaft this is for the leg to sit in .
on the other end of pipe do the same ,tIg weld R W O   to pipe [ make sure you use the correct threads on either end of the pipe as the R W O ,s have a left & right hand thread on either end on the trailer make a bracket or some sort of contraption for the other end of R W O bottle screw to fit onto the trailer , drill a hole in the center of the pipe put a piece of round bar through this is then used to turn the extended bottle screw you have made .
to save money buy one R W O & cut in half ,
Good luck M8t

Thanks for the detailed explanation but I'm afraid it is beyond my capability. I have to pay for it I guess. Where can I get a set.?

Prefer mine 1/2 way up resting on the ram only, pressure on a ram is good for the seal, also the ram is cetralized so weight is shared evenly on the pivot shaft.

Was told its best to keep pressure on the ram from a local hydralic expert, the downward pressure keeps the seal pushed tightly to the shaft enshuring it stays in top condition

I also grease the main and pivot shaft after every use on my merc so they dont wear prematurly

Even on long trips i never use a bar or the little catch things that it rests on,to me the secret is greasing the pivot points frequently, everytime i grease them water comes out, cant wear out with lots of grease...using a bar to save the transome makes sence on an older boat,on modern boats if they needed them they would come with tne boat from new

Can you clarify "half way up"
I transport my engine tilted up only enough so the is no way it can touch the road/judder bars. I would estimate the angle to be 20 degrees off the vertical
My thinking is that keeping the engine low, it can't bounce around. Lifting the engine right up, I think the leg and power head would act like a see saw pivoting on the ram

I'm using one of these - seems to work well, easy to stash in boat

Cost around $90.

I have the Yammy transom saver, on a Surt 6.1,  F150 Voyager trailer combo and still recon it is a bit low.  So for big trips I add an additional urethane bush for a bit of extension.

Otdrmn - just a used urethane suspension bush from local shock shop to give another 40mm on top of the transome saver.

May replace it as some of the urethane pushed into the rams - only used for my xmas trip to Whakatane and back from Welly last Dec.

Will try and remember when down the boatt next.

The motor up lock is not to be used for towing but in fact for engine servicing. The handbooks tell you that!!

The engine should be supported by some aftermarket brace / bracket that is never supplied with new engines!!!
