Hope this is the right place to be asking for reviews/opinions. Anyone use the Status spin rods? Been eyeballing a 7'2" BTR 8-10kg spin rod for a while now. Really like the weight and balance. Wondering how they hold up and perform. Will be used primarily as a heavy strayline set and maybe pitching some topwater stuff at skippies and albies for fun.

Bias here but the entire Status range represents really good bang for buck...built on solid foundations...designed/developed exclusivley by Shimano NZ for NZ.

You wont be disapointed...i've been using the Status BTR combo'd with a Thunnus 8000...mean!!!

Quite literally looking at that bit of kit as we speak. Can't find any online reviews and they are not exactly cheap so thought I would ask around but you're making my decision easier.

You've hit the nail on the head right there mate...they're not 'cheap' but for what you are getting in that rod really good value....like i said we spent considerable time designing and testing before putting the Status range in to production.

You'll enjoy using it

I have the very same set but yet to test it on anything huge. So far some big gurnard, KY, small sharks and snapper only to 38cm. Nice feel to the set, especially the reel. Can't wait to load it up!

Coincidence! Just looking at one today and came on to see if there were any opinions.  Was looking at Thunnus 4000 with the 6/8kg as a strayline set. Felt pretty good in the shop....

Update: bought it, trip planned a.s.a.p., will update on how it feels on a nice snapper, but in the garden its pretty good....

Do they do a status 8-10kg overhead? Just ****ed my 8-10kg BBE. I'd had a Torium 30 on it since new about 5 years ago so has gone good and has been my fav bait fishing set up. 10-15kg is just that little bit to heavy for me.

I've got the 10/15kg with a Penn 6500 Spinfisher V. Great for everything so far. Have spooled it up with some 15kg braid. It is a bit on the stiff side for snapper and all that but works great on those deeper drops or for the kingis. Will be getting a lighter model for straylining soon enough.

I just got myself a 6-8kg OH for snapper e.t.c. Haven't really tested it on a decent fish yet but seems to have a faster action than the Backbone Elite I used before.
