Last week we were fortunate to have the legend himself, ET out fishing for a couple of days. As part of his show he likes to have a kids segment so asked if we could organise a young fisho to be on board for a short segment at the end of the show.  Stratched my head for a minute and first fella that came to mind was a young fella whos always round the wharf when we get in,  keen as beans asking how we got on and you can tell is just itching to get out there.  Anyway a few days before ET gets into town I run into him "what ya doing wednesday Jack can you get the day off school?"  eyes light up! "ever caught a kingi?" na "oh by the way will be on camera, that ET fella" holy watch every show of his he's awesome!

Jack was at the tairua wharf bright and early catching a few springer kahawai for the bait tank, then proceeded to breeze through all the camera interviews and it was wide to 60 odd metres in vicinity of castle where the bait has been holding real deep for some reason & having a good chat to ET and loaded up on some real nice maccies. then it was kingi time, nailing his first at 14kg first drop, then Jack proceeded to ensure he was star of the show nailin the line share of the fish on the trip to 21kg....went hard all day,

talk about step up to the plate, well done young man!

ET played something like 320+ games for the Sharks - think it may still be a record for the number of 1st grade games for one club....true legend and comes across real good on the googlebox...natural!

Good stuff fellas....think you've just found yourself a new deckie in a few years time mate!! Thumbs Up

Yeah kaveman, as Kez points out one of the all time greats.  Super nice guy in person who took a genuine interest in locals like Jack and took the time to say gidday to people, sign autographs for a few of the league fans in town etc and even after doing the show for ages, he still has that twinkle in his eye when it comes to talking about fishing and the adventures he still wants to tick off the list. not sure when it screens Rob, free to air in Aussie, think it may be on Sky here

Yup, he's a legend alright, real club man in the good old days.
Have met him a couple of times when been in Aus, down at the Shire, very humble guy, down to earth.
Bloody good fisherman too.
Think he was one of the first guys to fish for Giant GTs with light spin tackle but dont quote me on that.

Looks like the young fella had a great day & to spend it in that sort of company he will never forget it.

Always a good story when the kid steals the show. He obviously was very keen and seemed to handle them just fine. Shot for giving the kid the chance. He will remember it for a long time to come
Wicked report. Definitely ticks the "feel good box"
