As per the topic above, just wanted to know if anyone's been onto perch during this winter season? Looking at doing a session in Hamilton if thats where they are biting. Wonder if Hamilton Gardens/Turtle Lake are still firing.

fresh water perch? invasive ones? back home people go out of their way to catch those, generally pretty easy to catch so long as their there.

Unfortunately the Council has now banned fishing in the gardens.

Yeah the freshwater type of perch. I don't discriminate against humans so I don't discriminate fish either. If they are there, I just catch them. So hamilton gardens is out...looks like I have to go to those bigger hamilton lakes... any recommendation?

Hamilton lake has some biggies but the best results are usually softbaiting from a Kayak

Hey guys I have fished the hamilton lake with small willow leaf spinner I think they are called"small silver blade that spins around a brass body" any way have done very well with this used to to it all the time after school also used an unweighted worm works surprising well cast out an jiged along slowly to avoid sinking into the weed they also will hang around under an structure / jettys as one afternoon was baiting hook fell over the side in the water to find a perch had snatched it ten more flowed that one good fun!they are bit harder in the winter to catch but still there they don't grow very big in lakes 270mm being the biggest I've ever caught bt that's nt to say there could be some goodys out there have seen some good ones come out from below the over flow at the bottom of the Hamilton gardens as by catch troutfishing we fishing with my father we i was younger hope that is some help to u cheers

Visited Hamilton Lake and Whangape on the weekend but didnt end up fishing. Ended up at Whangamarino and targeted carp and catfish in anger
