Hey guys
Is there a perfect rod length formula that rod makers use to match the rod length to shortys like me?  My arms are at max length and locked straight when a kingis is on but rather than get power and lift it just loads on the lower back.  Any ideas?  DIY

Are you talking about reel seat position Amanda?

Have you tried spinning gear?

No I have not tried any spin gear but Colin is not super tall either so maybe you guys are onto something
@Falco Yeah, I think the real seat needs to be closer to me that way I can use my arms more and not be locked.  Else I have to do the Boulder crouch

Amanda, you gals are a whole different game when it comes to jigging rods. It doesn't matter if it's a spin, conventional overhead or spiral wrap you all need a rod that allows you to fight the fish and not fight the rod. No off the shelf rod will be a perfect fit as the female skeleton dimensions are proportionally different to the male and sorry but all off the shelf jig rods are designed for the male frame... Even a short male has a larger muscle mass across the top of the shoulders and lower back which allows him better leverage on the rod.... Not all bad for you though as you can use technique rather than Brute strength..... Girls to talk to are Kelly Wibley, Nicky Sinden, Janelle Bruce, Hilary Kerns or CJ.... They all have jigging rods designed especially for them and all are different lengths and weight classes..... Hurt the fish not yourself...

Amanda... just to show you the difference between a rod built in generic measurements that would suit 90% of males verses one we have in build to suit a female with a height of 5'4" to 5'6". All the fulcrum points have been shortened.... even though the rod is 5'5" long if it has the right measurements it will be easier to use than a generic build...

Hey Amanda,
I have a couple you can try...Wink Different brands build different things and I have found a few off the shelf that work well for me. You could see if they can cut the end back slightly off the one you have.. I have had this done to one of mine and it made a huge difference without effecting the action of the rod. I can give you a number for this if you want just give me a bell Smile

spent a lot of time on the rods for the Gals... There are some awesome lady anglers out there and they shouldn't have to be disadvantaged by using a rod that doesn't suit....
Slackline will be getting one of the first X46's fully pimped out . Even has a Bad Ass Bass laser etched on the rear grip... Great little rod that is so easy to jig with....

Great Graeme, I see me getting a lot of use out it thenThumbs Up, Slackline spends more time snoozing in the bunk than fishing & with a new boat with bigger bunks I can just see him spending even more time snoozingBig smile

Thanks Guys and Gal ;-)
@MIB; Graeme I was reluctant to spend the money on a custom  as I was unsure about if I would really get into kingis.  I purchased a set 2nd hand which I measured and ironically spoke to Aaron (Kingislayer) who measured Kellys from butt end to midway reel seat.  Mine is longer by 15mm and Kelly is a bit taller than me.  I assume her arms etc are longer too.  That data gave me the inclination that the metrics for my stature were out of sync.

I was fighting the rod, and as a result my lower back spasm and became locked.  I basically handed over the rod begged Wahoo woman to land this fish so I could stand up straight.

I am a bit shorter than the 5"4 mark LOL closer to 5"1

Thanks for taking the time to reply guys!

Amanda, I'd look at your problem first then work out the solution in a rod.  Firstly, max rod power occurs when the rod is at 45 degrees - assuming fish is immediately below you.  If the belt is too low, it is too easy to high stick, too high and rod kicks out under load.   Around groin height is comfortable so this rules out the big knee high game belts.  Stick the rod in the gimbal and hold the rod out at 45 degrees, move your arms up or down the rod so that they are comfortable while keeping the rod at 45.  You need to find a hand position that allows you to pump the rod.  You will quickly determine what height the hand position should be to give you that 45 degree angle and this probably means trimming the butt end.  Trimming off any rod is a simple task, hell even I can do that.
