Hi guys, Im looking at a boat to take the family fishing, it has a 2004 Johnson 115hp 2 stroke outboard, the rig was sold new in 2006,but the owner didn't fit an hour meter on it, do any of you know if this motor stores running/fault data in its ecu ,Im not even sure the engine has an ecu. Don't wanta end up with an engine that's done big hours & pay top dollar for it, it looks to be in good, clean condition, the seller said its done about 200/250 hours. Im planning on getting a dealer to do a compression & leakdown test, and the seller is getting it serviced before I pick it up if its all good. Is servicing every 2 years ok if it not used a lot? Can anyone help. Cheers.

Hi Wet one I am no mechanic so don't know about the motor storing the hrs others on here will know. Pay to get a marine mechanic to check it over. Generally it pays to get the motor serviced every year cheap insurance, to make sure everything is working properly and gearbox seals checked and oil is changed. Every year or more if you use it often.....diy the parts is the gear oil impeller fuel pump gaskets..spark plugs saves some coin doing it that way to, but main engine is done by a pro ------------- http://www.legasea.co.nz" rel="nofollow"> MH... Catch measure release...<*))))< |

Thanks for your feedback guys, I've talked to a dealer today & he's said no the model motor Im looking at doesn't store data so its an unknown thing bugger it.....and an hour meter is so cheap why wouldn't ya fit one when buying new cheers.
