Advice and opinions appreciated.
Looking for something I can flick all day . Dedicated stickbait rod , lure range @ 50 to 80g. 7'6" to 8 ft . 2 piece. Want to do this once and do it right , get the most out of lures where the only limitation is my technique , give me something to work on ha ha. Reels more than likely Stella5000 or Saltiga4000 , from memory the Stella being the higher speed. Rod, synit raza pe3 or similar . Thinking around the 7'6" length a bit more user friendly for quick casts from small boat.
Thanks

How about the JM Surface Assasin 7'5"? Throws 40-120g and PE3-6 . Price about $825 in good tackle stores. Alternative is JM Ocean DEvil rod, there is a light model, don't have details at the mo.

Thanks Chris and Boulder.
I have just secured a Stella5000SW with 40 lb JB hollow on it. Realise alot will consider the 5000 a little under gunned. I would also use it for flicking big softbaits , and have a nice pe6 and pe8 sets. So this will be my fun set in the right circumstances.
That the reel rating that OD73 light is ticking a few boxes.
Will send pm Boulder.
Thanks again

Van Diemen X35, 30-90g, PE3-PE5, 8ft 2pc, Dedicated stickbait rod designed to target larger fish using light lures. The PE3 Razar may be like taking a pocket knife to a gun fight unless you are solely targeting inshore Gulf Kingfish. We primarily sell the PE3 into Southern California for small Tuna and Asia for Sailfish.

Your not under gunned with a 5K bro! I'm thinking a Van Diemen X35, it will be a new offering from Synit that is currently in the prototype stage. Xantu Live Fibre Nano blank, Fuji Components with "K" series guides, 2 piece, 8'4" (Not confirmed length will check with G) 30g to 80g best lure zone, PE3 - PE5. 12kg Max drag at 45degrees. I have a prototype here at RAL HQ, I have been flicking all manner of small stick baits with it and like what I see. This will be a real weapon for so many lure fishermen, the length gives very good distances when casting and would also be great on the bricks and with the rise in popularity of casting baits not just for Kingy's but Snapper, Trev's etc. dedicated "light" lure rods are going to gain traction in NZ. Bring on the BOP topwater bite!

Do you think that rod would be better ballanced with something like a Stella8000 Graeme?

Thanks RAL. Can't really ask for much more than that , feedback from the builder and test pilot plus the one I have just been on the phone too.
Looking forward to some topwater action . Didn't really crack it last year fishing out of coro but have just purchased new boat solely for purpose . Easy to launch just about anywhere on the coromandel , 4m centre console . What reel have you been using on that rod Sam.

5000, 6000 or 8000 at the top end would suit the Van Diemen X35. We have done a lot of testing overseas as well as here with the whole Van Diemen range working out lengths etc. Even though the prototypes like Sam at RAL has got is an 8ft 4" version the lenght does not impact on angler Fatigue as the top 2/3rds of the tip section has been designed go be taken out of play once hooked up and the mid 1/3 and butt do the lifting.

Sam's light lures are pretty much tuned to the Van Diemen's. Lionel has the X46 and been testing at the Three Kings and Cape Maria Van Diemen and we all know the sort of fish coming out of there of late...

Haha, i just sold my 5000 Stella to Dave, maybe should have kept it but think that Van Dieman35 would suit a bit more drag, Dave, you are welcome to try mine if you want

Another cheaper option is the Offshore Stick KGS series by Smith, 68M or 70 would suit pe2 nicely
