No, but as TSW says, a World record can.

This season is an anti-Mullins conspiracy! Pretty cool though. Heard conflicting reports about the minimum depth of Wanganella bank. Imagine what the reef would be like if you could get down to it...

The top of the reef is charted at 82m but I haven't been up there.  I'll come and safety you if you go.

How big were the stripes?

100.1 kg for Rochelles (aka Addict) and 137.8kg for the guys.  Not sure about James and the pole-speared one though.

Edit - 109 kg for James on a pole spear

So this is a world record... how? Fantastic catch and all that, but...

Smashing a stickface with a pointy stick on the other hand: Awesome.

Presumably the IUSA record. Mine is the IBSRC record, Wayne P's 151kg marlin is the NZ record. Meh. I'm off to set all the SSI freediving records, back in a tick...

It's kind of cool how, due to general apathy and an aversion to paperwork, three different marlin shot in NZ will occupy the three possible record spots.

The paperwork and cost of applying for a NZ record are prohibitive for sure. Dick Mullins

We need a unification trip. Sponsored by Wettie.

Now there is an idea ... If I manage to make the trip I had better check my shooting line condition before hand.

Could also go down the line fisho path and have different records for length of gun, single or double wrap, hardline or bungy, or whatever combo ...

Had a yarn with the bloke from wettie who pole speared the marlin. Reckons on the whole trip they spent about an hour in the water due to conditions, not a bad hour tho
