What's the pros and cons. Many people swear by inox for fishing gear but is it really any different from the other two ?

I know marine grade CRC has a sticky compound but other than that ??

Appreciate any opinions on this.

Used many of these products on a daily basis, there is something about inox i like though.
Will be watching to see if a chemist can tell us the guts of this.

WD 40 is fish oil based - so maybe not repugnant to fish?

Whatever you choose DO NOT put Inox on your Shimano reels rubber handles - makes them go quite tacky

Inox is great as the added lanolin adds an extra level of lube and repellant. Actually, haven't we had this thread not so long ago? Check those replies out mate.

Can we add Pirtek reel deal fishing equipment lubricant to the comparison list as well?

I find Inox to be great. Used to use it on lots of stuff, but now find I use Corrosion X on the boat/trailer and Inox on tackle. Haven't had any adverse effects of using Inox on my handles. A while back there was a thread where some of the handles went tacky when exposed to softbait juices.

I'm not sure which product you mean by CRC, but I have used their http://www.crc.co.nz/Hardware-Corrosion-Protection--Coatings-Protective-Compounds/p1/Tackleguard-ibc2d895a-ba6e-4e2d-b321-59745bc54376-6587.htm" rel="nofollow - tackle guard without any problems on my rods & reels.  I don't think WD40 is a very good choice as it is mainly a penetrating lubricant and not specifically designed to provide long term protection.  Also causes problems with some rubber products, for example it destroys O-rings.  It is similar to CRC 5-56.  I think it is basically a white spirit base with lubricants in it.  It is able to penetrate into small cracks and then the white spirit evaporates off leaving the lubricant behind, but it is quite a thin grade of lubricant, not the sticky type you need for long term protection.  Great for getting stuck nuts & bolts apart though.

Have used all 3. WD40 is such a great lubricant that I find the screws on reel sideplates back themselves out over time, especially with boat vibrations etc. Also loosens decals like CRC does.

Have found Inox great, just keep it off the handles!

Thanks for the info team - judging by the comments regarding the base receipe of CRC and WD40 I think I'll go with Inox for the tackle.
