Hi all looking at options for a 2500 size reel in the sort of mid range category for soft baiting with 8-10lb braid?
Looking at Stradic 2500 ci4 Daiwa legalis 2500
what other options do you recommend? and has anyone used the Abu Garcia Orra S20, how does it perform?
Cheers

Really like the Stradic ci4 2500. Super light, smooth and very good drag. Look around and find some good prices

the pflueger patriarch 9535 would be perfect. it is light years ahead of those other 2 in a similar price range although more prone to corrosion

the
pfluegers corrode if you don't wash them right after every trip
Ci4 is amazing technology.
I have a stradic ci4, amazing little reel... you wouldn't regret spending the $$ I also have a sustain, nicer again but higher price.

Why is the patriarch so much better? Have looked at getting a ci4, seems like the patriarch is not as suitable for the saltwater and doesnt it weigh more? What part of it is "light years ahead"? Im not trying to rubbish your view point just trying to see what it is you like about them much more?

just saw the post. Where do i start. the number one thing for me is that the handle feels so much better in the hand. The "i" knob over the "cone" knob anyday. im currently using the 9530x and its like 179g so lighter than the ci4 but do agree the 9535x is a tad heavier than the ci4 there is less flex in the body being magnesium over the ci4 material the bail arm being thicker is so much easier to open and close all day and there is a definate click so you dont cast with the bail arm slipping over the spool is lighter so there is less start up inertia meaning less shock on the line, especially using 6lb braid or light mono. Carbon drags are awesome also in this regard the reel is incredibly smooth, even atfer 2 years of heavy use. it does require to be cleaned after each use but all reels should be anyway. Think the pflueger looks better too but just a personal preference a lot of the weight savings are actually through better materials but as carbon fibre handle, carbon fibre spool abor, titanium shaft, heavily ported spool etc as opposed to plastic parts

Go the Stradic mate. Wicked little reels with really smooth drag, lightweight and look the part also. If the handles not your preference then just upgrade to a 4000fj or sustain 5000 handle. Excellent back up service should any part be needed as not so much for the Pflueger. I've also got a brand new twinpower 2500 you could grab at a sharp price.

Like the sound of the stradic Seems the 4000 hold a good amount of line. But what line capacity do you really need for s.b fishing. There is always the time the kingy of a life time comes along! About 10 years back in the firth something picked up my bait mid water on the drop and 300 metres of new 8kg mono vanished in about 30 seconds on a fairly tight drag and went ping--gone.

Have to agree with FA..I've been using the 40 size for about 2.5 years now off a kayak and its been awesome, it does have some really nice features/materials..love the 'i' handle knob and the bail arm, the weight and nice drag, spare spool. It is starting to show some signs of corrosion however in a couple of tiny areas, it gets a good clean after each use and regular service. If I get another 2-3 more seasons from it ill be a happy man.
I think the ci4 will still have it over the pflueger in terms of longevity however but the pflueger has been a pleasure to use so far.

Broooooooooooo | Haha try one and see. Very nice reels the reality is that any reel in that price range it going to be sweet. just comes down to whether you prefer a lighter reel (stradic ci4, patriarch) or a heavier but more solid metal reel (the white stradic, daiwa) Go into the store and play with them and you will soon have a preference of what you like

I picked up a cheap Shimano sienna 2500 in OZ last time i was over. For a low end reel it's been performing well. I've had some good snapper on it, but just one Kingfish. I got it to the rocks, but before i could grab the net, it took one more dive and rubbed me off on the rocks. All power to it :)

| Good reel choice, I'd go the 6 lb stren for a 2500, it massively over tests. I run 10lb on my 4000, it's great braid.

| There is going to be so many rod choices various price ranges. Best thing is to go into a shop and bend plenty of rods and see what you like i ended up witha shimano staro tournament pro 4-7 maxspin and love it. landed a 1.5m thresher on saturday with 6lb Microfuse and 20lb ocean angler fluro other rods that have impressed me is the pflueger patriarch rod and the cd dropshot it will be what you budget and if you like light or heavy

A reel that is corrosion resistant would be a big benefit as it will get a lot of spray or at least not prone to corrosion. In say that though I would also like a solid feeling reel and have herd that the Ci4 has quite a bit of flex in it? How does the Caldia compare to the stradic Ci4? and in general how does Daiwa's zaion compare to Ci4?

i now have a daiwa caldia. wow what a reel. zaion is way less prone to flexing and a far better reel than the shimano ci4. having a reel that is super smooth, extremely corrosion resistant, and the magseal to stop water getting into the reel. it is not possible for water to get in the reel unless it is fully submerged. feels pretty amazing in the hand

the sustain is also a very nice reel. if your reels stay pretty dry they are a great option but if your reels get a bit wet from boat spray etc then the caldia is the better option

Thanks FA I was just going to ask that question. My gear can get wet as I only have a 14ft runabout and rod holders are on the outside of the screen so there isnt alot of protection.

no worrys. i have 14'4 fibreglass and they get pretty soaked so can feel pretty easy with the caldia knowing it just needs a rinse with the tap when i get home. that was the key reason i went caldia over the sustain

ok so lucky I didnt buy a reel when I was going to as my mate (first time fishing) dropped that rod over the side. So now im looking at more than a reel so have to reduce the price range to accommodate the rod. would you go Fj stradic or Daiwa lexa?

Yeah on a general rule that is true and they wouldnt be back on the boat anytime soon, although I do have a soft spot for this fella he isnt in the same frame of mind as most of us and gets a pretty hard time so it was good to be able to get him out there and into a few work ups and fish. Just one of those things that happens when dealing with the unpredictable nature of situations
