The spinfisher range has been around for a long time but have Penn now got something to match it with the Shimano Stellas & Daiwa range of reels. Watch the video, Im sure this subject will cause some debate.

Hi Tzer

Although the Spinfisher SSV is going to be an awesome reel and will smash kings, This is the badboy you may be talking about taking on the stellas????

Built proudly in Philadelphia, the Torque™ Spinning reel was designed for anglers needing a rugged spinning reel for heavy saltwater fishing. From sharks to sailfish, the Torque spinning reel comes in three main sizes to whip anything you are after. Featuring a fully sealed system to repel saltwater and grit, the Torque ensures optimal performance in any situation. Put one to the test and see what you’ve been missing.

Made in the USA

The Torque Spinning reel is built in our Philadelphia, Pennsylvania manufacturing center. Our experienced crew has been designing and producing durable, high-quality reels in this facility since 1932.

Fully Sealed System

The Torque spinning reel’s gearbox and drag system is fully sealed from the elements allowing you to concentrate on fishing. Worrying about salt spray and sand compromising your reel’s performance is a thing of the past with the Torque.

Oversized HT-100™ Versa Drag System

Allows the angler to quickly select multiple drag settings for just about any fishing situations and provides smooth drag under heavy loads. By rearranging the sequence of the keyed metal washers and eared HT-100™ washers the reel can be set up for fishing a wide range of drag settings without additional parts.

Full Metal Body

Tough is an understatement when describing the Torque spinning reel. Our seasoned engineering staff constructed the Torque with a full metal body for precise gear alignment under heavy loads.

Bail Trip Switch

The bail trip switch is located on the rotor and allows the angler to select between automatic and manual bail trip functions.

have been playing with them at work for the last few days and the ssv is wicked value for money. not in stella league but think more fin nor offshore's. the full sealing they have used is great!

Nice how does the Penn compare drag and weight wise to the Fin nor ?

my understanding is that it doesnt have the same lock down drag as the fin nor but should expect 10-13kg of useable drag out of em. they are heavy reels like the finnor but seem alot smoother .  we have the 8500  and its the size of, say,  a saragosa 16000 so the 1050 is gonna be a seriously big reel.

This is the Penn SSV Spinfisher V

The 6500 is the largest topwater speed model 6.5:1.

The rest ( larger ) are jigging speed, 4.7:1 & 4.2.1

Around 200-250.00 water resistant  body, rotor.  14 kg drag on the 6500, 20kg on the 9500 10500

will be one to watch.. in its  price range.

Cheers Greg

Hey guys,

I popped in and picked up a ssv 6500 from Greg @ GoFish yesterday. Nice solid reel and EVERYTHING is lubricated -main body, all drags (top & bottom spool) & screws, plus main body seal o-ring and o-rings on the handle bearings. Alan Tani would be proud
.
I only took the side off to check if I needed to grease it ,so didn't check to see if the shielded bearings were packed.

Nice! I bet you are itching to get out and test it!   Specially with this nice weather,
The 6500 would be my choice too...not too heavy the 7500 i believe is around 29 oz in real life..

Yeah the 6500 balanced nicer on the Demon Blood than the 7500 or 8500. Itching to use it now, why did I buy it the weekend my wife was away and I have to look after the kids??
(oh yeah, because she was away! )

Saw the new Penns the other day.... very nice.
The torques are too rich for my blood, but as I am moving to lighter reels, lighter line for smaller poppers etc, I plan on getting me a Spinfisher 5500 or two, loaded with 20-30lb braid.
Some nice looking gear indeed.

I went on a six day fishing trip in the far north a couple weeks back and took my new SSV6500 Spinfisher strapped to our 8ft 2pce 6-12kilo Prevail rod from Penn. I shortened the butt a few cm's and found it to be a great top water combo. Although I only caught 10-15kg kings it stood up to them sweet. I also took away our new Penn Legion 7'6 2pce 10-12kilo, This is a very nice top water rod as well - it has an extra heavy action on it but still is nice to throw around the Sebile lures I took. I even used the combo's for a bit of trolling which towed around our Sebile magic swimmer - This lure is sick. It's the most natrual smimming thing I've ever seen. Value for money you couldn't go pass these combo's and the reel with it's 14kilo of drag you don't need anything else!!!

This is her - Lined with our Super X Fathom metered braid.

The Magic swimmer pictured at the bottom.

You have to check out this lure - It even sucks in bait fish http://www.sebileusa.com/in-action.html" rel="nofollow -
