Ok so i want to tie a bimini twist knot, but all i get is a twisted loop instead.
Is it because i do not pull both ends and just pull one end of the line?
otherwise the bimini twist knot is good for me and my kingfish sessions.
But the twisted line bothers me, help please

Presume the problem is with mono.......a mate of mine told me that whenever he does it in mono he always gets twists in the mono....what weight is the line? of course it always form real nice in braid because braid has no memory.

ive never tried a Bimini in 80lb always thought it to be rather too thick....
you have a problem with doing a plait???
when i do one i make sure its tight as hell while tying it, then it never slips at all, you cant move mine one bit...
i do a Bimini with 30lb or less and yes i do get twists in the line when it is finished,
but that is easy to get rid of,
more so if you do it while the line is on the reel because that is as far back as the twists go just let it go limp and hang, this way they unwind themselves....
i am not sure if those twist are what you mean...

over the years mate have done an absolute sht load on 80lb, always found it better to do 16-21 turns and with 2 people rather than on your own, I have since gone to plaits and found it easier if not a little longer to do on your own but with the plait I finish it off as I would the bimini, with a few half hitches.

wetting the line is interesting and makes sense I guess, I have never done it so must try, but the thing with a bim is you have to do it rather tight.

just me but if your only chasing kings etc use a spider hitch with 80 a very strong knot.

Ba the spider hitch is what i use, just wanted to try something different. Too Many vanilla ways to tie knots. I'll try and wet the line better and tighten the knot more..

BTF, if you are only making a small double (3 foot or so) to allow you to do a loop to loop join for your windon leader then the bimini twist is very easy to do by yourself, the main thing is you need soemwhere to sit down and do it. Make a loop about 3 feet long and do 25 turns, then put each of your big toes in the loop and move your feet apart a bit then work the twists up so you can now put your knees inside the loop, then holding the top main line just above the twists in one hand and the tag in the other you spread your knees apart thus tightening up the twists and once enough tension is on then allow the tag end to spiral back down the twists, half hitch one leg of the loop then the other leg and then over both, then to finish off the bimini twist I have a loop of 50lb line about 6 inches long which I lay along the double from the knot back towards the top of the loop (the loop should extend about two inches past the end of the half hitches) then wrap the tag end around the double and the short loop about 5 times and then thread the tag end through the end of the short loop and then pull the short loop back through the line wrapped around the double creating a nice neat knot to finish the bimini twist off. I can do one in about a minute.
The other thing I do for my game outfits is I will thread on a 8 inch length of 50 pound dacron onto the main line before I make the double and then make the bimini twist so the dacron in in the double, then I will whip the dacron with waxed thread in the middle of the double so that it creates another loop about 4 inches long which I use to create the loop to loop join thus giving the mono in the loop to loop connection a bit more protection

Use the rod for assisting with the knot, put the loop on the reel handle with the drag up, wind up to its tight then you will get better tension on the knot for the wrapping back. We do not use this knot on 80# or above and choose to use the plait or a chain knot or Bimini knot direct to the swivel, these knots hold better on the heavier lines.

The version I use, have since moved to a plat, would rate them as about the same difficulty to tie.

It's nothing flash Just goes into vice so I can make them easy. The middle bolt is used at the end of the knot tying to bring the loop together to end with the 1/2 hitches. Also to attach scales to for destruction tests. The top two have a bit of tubing to stop any possibility of damaging the line.
