These set ups are some of the first purpose built jigging reels in NZ, in the early days the JM boys fished Accurate reels with their tuned arms/knobs etc. To be honest, In these early E series Accurates we did have the odd main shaft braking under heavy fishing or fish and a flat round flat main shaft end would flog if the main arm nut comes lose. The JM main shafts have a square cut end which in that series of Accurate reels does seem more reliable re. jigging only. The only issue with the JM shaft is you have to pull the main shaft (pull the reel to bits) out to oil the AV bearing, where as the Accurate has a oil gallery down the center of the main shaft (oil from the out side of reel).
We need to remember these reels are of the era from when the new school jigging got going. Out of 100's of reels the shaft braking was not really the reel but more heavy handed fishing styles and was only with jiggers and fixed pretty quick by Accurate with their BX range which we have been running the past 4-5 years. TOTALLY BULLET PROOF!!!
All the old E series Accurates can be upgraded, BX side plate 4.1:1 or 6.1:1 $350 JM main shaft and arm $250 Both come with DFS AV seal kit worth $40.
The BX is the way to go if you have the money. For me sharing the JM parts with the Accurates is a nice mix of two classic brands from NZ jigging history......

It means you can push it to sun set with one hand. Handy on large fish. Also lot of jigging rods are rated in drag settings not line weights, and most of time re. jigging we want as much drag as the weakist link will handle. Personally, I like the feel of peddle to the metal! whats the point of pushing it only half way??? lol
I modifiy the lever on your reel, it's $30 plus freight. Most are combining it with their Accurate free one year service....

Nearly convinces me to buy an Accurate & pimp it like you do, Don't mean to hijack your thread but wondering where you got the idea from to seal the handle shaft bearings with seals as Alutecnos have been doing this for years and never have a problem with Anti reverse bearings, No single or double or tripple dawgs, so curious?

Looks like you are trying to hijack my thread, maybe a PM meassage would have been less of a hijack?? This thread is about modified reels not brands and who is better. If you look into it there is several brands with sealed AV bearings.
Steve, I think more what you are poking for is this,
Steve from Sword Fish Marine is one of the best in NZ re. servicing reels, particually Penn Game reels, he is also one of the northland service agents for Accurate reels. A year or so back Steve sent me a seal from a Alutecnos that fitted in the E series Boss Accurate reels from 4-5 years ago. (Not so important to me as we do not sell this range of reel anymore). We both have them in stock and it is a good up grade for those that own this series of Accurate reel. What this did though, was prompt me to find a seal that fitted the BX range of Accurate reels (bigger AV bearing and main shaft) This is the latest range of Accurate reels. This has now turned into Accurate starting to put the seals in their reels. This will be from around Dec onwards.
Accurate would like to thank Steve from Sword Fish Marine for the idea starter and Kane from Decoro for tuning it and making it happen.

Some interesting stuff there Kane, How long is the 'accurate long jig arm' that you are fitting to that BX400? and is it the same size as the standard BX500XN arm? And I noted you put a 5:1 ratio into one of your 600 size tripple dawg reels. Is 5:1 going to become another option for the whole range?

Hi, The longer arm is 105mm the standard ones are 95mm. All standard Accuartes come with the short arm. It is only jiggers that need the longer ones. It depends where you brought the reel to which arm it has on it.
The 5.1:1 ratio has come from the two speed reel I converted. It is the only choice in these reels. Accurate are going to start building single speed DAWG reels in Dec, they will be 6:1 and 4:1.
Please note the custom single speed triple DAWG dog reel is a one off, when I started building it Accurate were not going to make single speed DAWG reels. I was thinking of building them for the NZ market but now Accurate is going to build them I am leaving it to them.
I would like to thank everyone for the comments re. this reel. I have now priced them to build at $1050 let me know if anyone is keen? The big thing over the standard Accurates are they are 5.1:1 and in the 600nn size (300mtr 80lb) They will come with all the spec's of the I have posted earlier but a blue power knob and blue scull and cross bone cast control cap.

Maybe you would like to post that the work on the following reel is not your own because the way you have posted it it appears that it is. This is just normal etiquette on a forum or in real life, not a dig at you.
Also to hit someone like Jimmy Nail (who by the way I have never met nor know) about posting off the shelf parts up as reel mods is a little harsh considering a fare percentage of what your posting are not mods but rather glory bits that can be purchased and fitted purely by undoing a nut or drag washer. Mods are modifications like your color etching and and other custom bit and bobs bearing changes or JTF coloring changes.

Hey Man,
I prefer it over a T-bar; previously used a JM 45mm but these ones feel better, they are just a bit larger in diameter but not as deep

would putting a aftermarket handle on affect warranty ?or is it only when you start opening them up .

I can't speak for any of the other tackle companies out there but our policies are pretty clear:
http://www.shimanofishing.co.nz/warranty
The only parts designed fo Shimano reels are bone fide Shimano parts whether that be spool, handles or any other part - the 3rd party stuff we have no quality control over and I've personally seen some pretty cheap and nasty 'upgrades' available hence our policy as such.
I dont think there are many manufacturers/distributors that would be prepeared to warranty custom or aftermarket modifications....anyhoo....as long as you are aware of the risks.

I would have thought that adding an aftermarket arm to a reel for example would provide more torque to the drive train than the manufacturer had anticipated, therefore increasing the stresses and wear on the reel, to parts that were not designed to cope with this stress.
Personally I have no issue with it as I am more inclined to just fix it myself than wait for warranty claims. It certainly aint everyones cup of tea, and if your not technically minded then perhaps its not for you.
The talica is a good example, once it was dipped in smurf excretement and the longer handle put on all warranty expectations disappeared....... From my point of view anyway.
As an aside Kezza, I really think the new propietry coating on the talicas and trinidads is no where as hard wearing as the ole anodoizing, part of my rationale for painting it was that it scratched very easy, where as the gold oceas and Trinadads where much hardier...
Food for thought, or more compost?

I posted a heap of customised reels but it got moved and closed down. I thought it was relevant?? I agree with kezza. Any modified reel carries no warranty. But if you can afford a $1000+ reel you can normally afford the $100 service charge when it needs work. I just pimped out my shimano Calcutta with a graphite handle and teflon drag washers, looks cooooool now

as an aside to this, I have a Tiagra 80 was brought here but I dont have the receipt to say so but then all tiagra items come with a serial number and who it was sent to for selling, how can I go about getting the shop name where I brought it, can only be one of two places Smarts or Just fishing, dont exactly want to send it in saying I got it from one when in fact it was the other as this would also void my claim.
any ideas as I will send it back to you to sort if there is no hassles along the way

Also just a note, not all these reels are mine. Customizing and modifing is not everyones cup of tea it is just something I love doing for those who want extra performance or style out of their gear, Like myself. I have had several people comment that others maybe interested in what I do so I am posting the reels I work on.
The Slay 'em All Ocea is one of Strickly Fishings reels, They are wanting to move some of these on if anyone is keen. Feel free to get in contact with them www.coastalfishingcharters.co.nz

I put the the Accurate Extreme knobs on them.

I warrenty anything I do on Accurate reels.
For anything else I mod I give an honest from experience run down on how to fish or use the modified reel or just how long I think it will last in regards to the mods done.
Kezza, you are right. Changing drag washers or plates, fitting longer arms power knobs etc will void most brands warrenties.

I had spied these a while ago. It was only a matter of time mate. It makes the reel looooook another LEVEL. The only thing i would like to see is the drag dial matched to the Spool as you can get 4 different coloured spools and arms. There is something like 9 different coloured Knobs for these.
Anyway i got the Add ons from Boulder.... So stoked with it.

hi guys! did abit of work to one of the beter halfs reels today, its a stock tyrnos 10, great little reels but a stubby handle makes them not ideal for jigging... so talking to kane at decoro, kane talked me into modding the reel she allready has instead of buying new! (NOT MANY SHOP OWENRS WOULD TELL YOU THAT!!) so he supplyed me with a accurate x-tream power knob, in her favourite blue! then i machined up a long stainless arm, i rekin i looks pretty sweet and it scored me some brownie points!! for any of these parts or work done get in touch with kane at decoro!! cheers zac
