http://uksf.sea-angler.org/rules.html

The nzaca has adopted the well established rule set from the uksf above.

The only difference of note is the line class for the 150g class where they use a .31 running line where we use a .30 line due to its common availability here in NZ.

Hi vis mono leaders only as well but tapered leaders are allowed as long as the working section of the leader ( the sinker to the reel bit ) conforms to the diameter rules .

Fixed spool users can get some real distances with the lighter lines and it also helps those who just cant cope with bigger leads and have been handicapped by having to use a light lead on thicker line.

Cheers for that Neil. Couple of questions after reading the rules...

Hivis casting leader is that adhered to here all the time? Is there a prefered brand or any hivis mono that meets the line diameter?

Casting Weights
says they'll be supplied. Again is that adhered to here or do we supply our own?

Oops .  Some leads are there at most events but it pays to have a few of your own.

Hi vis.......In my view must be adhered to .In the event of a snap off a clear leader is bloody hard to find and we should only be leaving foot prints behind

Sakuma daiwa ultima all have hivis tapered leaders or you can use normal leader .I use ultima powerflex in 70lb for all my casting .

Are the lines all going to be checked for diameter?

How accurate is the Daiwa Tournament .28 or the Ultima distance for accuracy?

Daiwa seems fine from the ones I have tried .The ultima was a little bit over but thats still fine .

Most are a little big in fact but thats mono line .

What about using printers lead, it's a lot heaver for a smaller dia. or do all casting weights have to be weighed?

All need to the same otherwise that would be unfair.

SO as long as the weights alright, it doesn't matter what sinker you use?

Wouldn't bother me but I don't run the comps. However I think that everyone should use the same leads to remove any possibility of cheating being raised .
Winged ones and other shapes dont fly any further that I have seen.

http://www.tackletactics.co.nz/sinkers.html 5th one down. Cheap enough.

The .30 line is only legal for this current year. At the 2013 nats the new rules come into being.

At the Tackle Tactics region casting events the new rules apply.
A lot of you will be pleased with the extra distance using matched lines and weights to your rod and body.
The casting weights will be supplied Tackle Tactics as the sponsor of the regional casting and the 2013 nats. These weights will be available for use free of charge at these events. These weights will be colour coded at these events.
Tackle Tactics has the casting weights for sale on their web site.

So at Nats next year, the matched line classes come into effect? & for the rest of this year it's .30 line for all weights?

Oval split rings are mentioned in the uk rules for connecting leader to weights. Same here?

The NZACA rules say leaders maybe tied directly to the casting weight or attached via an approved clip.

There will be a few growing pains to begin with, but it's all about moving forward.

Just wait until you convince yourself that it is absolutely necessary to spend a $1000 on a rod, and you'll need at least two of them...

Wink As Neil mackellow once said "$ don't buy yards" It was actually pounds for the UK.
On a more serious note what dothe rules say about the safety aspects of the BS for shock leaders? Does the 10 to 1 rule apply? ie; 10 pounds of BS for each ounce cast? eg; 50lb for a 5 oz lead.

Looks like every .05mm is 10lb in the powerflex

We havent submited any clips as yet. Jock our casting coordinator would prefer that we all tie on at this stage as there are some dodgy clips on the market ( safty first)

Are there any rules for how long the shock leader needs to be? ie how many raps need to be on the spool for casting?

Thats what I would think is a safe margin.
Does anyone have a stock at the moment of .32 hi viz Sakuma or Ultima Distance hi viz line?
I have Sakuma .28.5 but my 6500 sized reels have the .35 Sakuma for fishing. I would like to get the .32 on my Diawa Mag/HSM combo prior to the 14th.
