I experimented with fish stencils about 8 yrs ago. I made my own squid shapes never got round to finishing the job as it was a pain lying on your back trying to do the job with boat still on trailer. I should have done it before the boat had its motor fitted. Did they help us catch any more fish, dont really know. Boat only acounted for 3 marlin, a handfull of yellowfin and I lost count of the amount of big albacore most over 15kg in the 5 years I had it. Didnt bother with current boat but will give consideration to doing it on the next one.   |

| A lot of boats in the US are using these with very good results with fish often hitting the hull! and a lot of US boaties are too scared to put these on there hulls! but then they are pussys over there not like us Kiwis! |

Cool but I wonder how much of the hull is clearly seen amongst all the bubbles and white wash...but then again fish see differently to us...

| Can one of you more experienced fisherman explain to me how this can possibly attract fish?. Is it just for slow trolling or something where they suppose to look life bait fish through the water? |

The idea of these uses the splashing of a moving boat and white water, bubbles etc to give the idea of moving school of bait.

Well it is sort of a theory that a boat cruising along with a fair bit of wash and noise appears as an artificial reef or a workup of baitfish to predators and should cause the predators to rise to have a look and chances are if you have lures out they will come and check them out, so some like extra noise and splash by way of teasers, exciters, dredges, big and small lures and of several colours to represent the baitfish in the area hopefully that the fish are feeding on... Of course it is all theory that keeps us obsessed with spending countless hours towing bits of coloured shaped plastic out of rediculously expensive boats with rediculously expensive rods and reels and to some it becomes a mental possession that the more of this we do the better a gamerfisher it makes us...

| ive tried black siloetes of fish under my hull but they ended up peeling off , i think as they were peeling off they also created slight bubble trails adding to the effect , maybe painting them on mite be the go the above pic shows the general effect of what the fish must see , nuthing to loose they not exactly goint to scare them away ! |

The hull is the teaser, just like anything moving through water air ( BOAT,LURE, LURES , will create drag.
Why do fish school
why do birds fly in flocks
why do tri athletes swim in schools
because once your out of the school its very hard to get back in.
So if you understand wake, not only what you see on the surface, but in 3d, then maybe understanding where the best placement of your lure in relation to what would be an Ideal place for a struggling fish, to the school may be the answer.
still can't figure it out though.

pretty sure i read an article donkeys years ago about guys using this type of thing to attract yfn etc.. never done it.. thought about doing it this year even... something to try |

yep why not, shouldn't put them off anyway, now who is going to run a garden hose around the boat and pump water through it with lots of little holes so it sends out a massive spray?????? or fly lots of bird shaped kites from the boat making the appearance of a flock of birds following a school of bait fish????????? yep you can go on forever, in the end its how your mind is at rest with what your doing... ------------- Thanks for everything you did for us Eric. may you rest in peace, You were one of the real legends of NZ recreational fishing |

one of the boats i used to fish had a white school of fish panited on , me , yes i think they work and if i had a boat big enough to warant it ,yes i would look at the options of doing it

2 seasons back I had to replace one of mine, it took a direct hit this last season I had 2 holes beside another and scapes by another, the day I took out a forum member we got one and had another miss the hull teaser by inches as it spun around and swum off.
