Anyone had any experience using braid for Trout fishing?

And what length of fluorocarbon leader should be used so fish cant see the High visibility braid?

A metre is plenty.
I would tend to use something like fireline or nanofil, but then I am using spin reels, spinning for trout. A metre of 10lb flurocarbon on the end and I have no issues with hooking fish.

10lb is quite heavy.I would increase the leader length if you are fishing clearish water.

You have basically two options as I see it. As C.A has it - 1 meter of braid and the knot starts out of the guides for casting - or you have a long leader and the knot starts at least a few winds onto the spool.

I use 1lb or 3 lb crystal fireline - so I need a long leader to ensure the braid is not 'shock broken' when casting. You do need more attention to your knots though to stop it going pear shaped if you use a long leader.

Jamesd is onto it... 3-4m leader (I like to have 2-3 wraps of the leader on the reel with about 40cm hanging from rod tip as a guide, esp as it can take some shock of a good cast) of 6-8lb fluoro or mono mated to a braid line no more than 6lb (2-4lb ideal and will still have a breaking strain of around 8-10lb). 10lb is pretty heavy and will break out around 15-20lb generally, that's rod-snapping stuff if you load-up... Braid by nature has very little stretch, if you get a decent fish hit with minimal strech in you'd line, it's bust-off time. I find 3m gives the perfect blend of feel, stealth, stretch and absorbtion. Braid is just marveloyus for spinning, I'd never go back to mono.

have a look at this brochure below for some general guidelines.

Thanks for the info Guys.
I didn't realise Braid broke so high above the stated strength.

The 10lb will be alright wont it? I dont really want to have to go and buy some lighter stuff.
Will be using 6 or 8lb fluorocarbon leader.

Be okay mate, still bloody thin! But if you can at some stage get 150m of 4lb, it's cheap as these days. Cheers

Like flyfisher, I use around 3m or so of leader. I use a low vis braid as well, Rovex Viros comes in a nice low vis colour, I am using 6lb Bass Hard braid in a greyish colour at the moment and it's sweet.

Thanks Again for all the information.

will you still catch Trout with higher visibility braids like the red power pro Ive got?
or does the high visibility of the Line spook the Trout even with A fluorocarbon leader

Red Powerpro is supposedly invisible underwater and cannot be seen by a fish's gamut of colours... that maybe so in murky American bass waters, but certainly not in a clear NZ river, if it's estuarine or slightly coloured / high water, no problem at all, even with a 1m leader. The longer the leader... the less chance of a fish not seeing the braid, but clear water.... stealth is paramount spinning.
