The game-fishing season is just around the corner so time to start polishing the gear and getting the boat in top condition. This thread is for posts on what's happening in your local area.
Good luck and tight lines to all for the upcoming season
Keep an eye out for the new catch record thread which will be a great way to see at a glance what everyone has been catching

kings seem to be in abit closer then last month, snapper fishing is still abit hit and miss but catching a good feed should be no real problem... heard a few rumours of skippies but I have not seen anything yet.

I see there is no posts for houhora so here's one! My mate went out last week in the light winds and caught a 90.5kg stripey. Not bad for a first fish of the season. Cheers.

Just one more post for Houhora area, I tagged and released a nice little stripie today in 120m off Mt Camel , has been a good bite up there for last few days from Mt Camel to North Cape in 100m to 140m, so get up there, best area on the coast at present, however a bit sloppy conditions from the east makes things interesting, cheers Swordfishsteve

On about the 15th Feb, Primetime tagged a Black Marlin estimated at 300 kg on the King Bank. Awesome fish! Just crew, no paying customers.

spent the last week up in this area, yes there was a hot bite we tagged 3 marlin and 4 sharks in the area but it lasted a day and a bit before dwindling off and there was spasmodic catches in the area with the odd bunch of heads poking up here and there, find the bait and find the fish funny thing was we got more on lures than baits the area was alive with saury so may have been a problem to match the hatch although we did get them on kahawai, we took one over 100k for the freezer 100m line was working well that is follow the contour line. lots and I mean lots of makos, so if bait fishing take a heap as you will be sharked we tagged 4 but lost twice that amount with bite offs. some big bait schools at 50m so be prepared to bomb bait the school it works well

I'm off'too to whangaroa on Tuesday for marlin masters class on Arenui. First time seriously chasing the big boys (other than a day trolling lures off the manukau). The excitement is growing hour by hour. I hope to have a good report up Monday 11th march.

Hi all, Just got back from the Kings via Auckland, spent just the 2 days on the bank and had a great time of it, we christened my good mates refurbished Salthouse 50 with its first Marlin (It was previously from the South Island). First day on the bank we only got one bite on a livie which we promptly dropped, not many if any being caught up there on lures at the moment, we got to see Mr Gregory onboard the good ship Primetime catch an extraordinary 7 marlin in one day by HIMSELF to our big fat 0!! You might hear more about this as it was truly amazing to watch from just 200metres away. Then our luck changed the following day, 30/4 we tagged 4 stripey's between 80 and 110kg all on live skippys, not bad considering we had no tuna tubes (didn't have time to finish them off, next years project) John on Primetime picked up another 2 solo, Shiraz got 2 from 2, and the 3 other boats on the bank scored at least 1 or more for the day, all on skippys except for 1 on a lure. It was a case of catch a skippy then some times only taking 2 minutes or a frustrating hour, once a couple were caught it was often only a matter of minutes. Awesome day on the bank for Team Awesome
Also spent a day deep dropping on the Garden Patch amongst those that have already caught swords this year, our method and systems worked well but no joy. Pic's to come
