Just upgraded to one for the new season. Just curious as to what reels you guys are using with these. The "max load" is stated as 7kg(45°) 4kg(90°) which seems pretty lightweight. Is there a fair whack of safety margin? Just making sure I don't end up with a 3-piece.

I've got Stradic 8000 max drag 13kg. There's been a few guys recommend the 74PG on here so assume there's some knowledge to be shared on this.

I fish mine with a Stella 5000 works good for me. Awesome rod and has a lot more grunt than you first think.

Smith are super conservative on their ratings across their rod range. If you stuck to what they said you'd be fishing gentle, even the Smith Komodo is only rated at 10kg at 45 degrees.......

congrats on a great purchase, i have had my 74pg for a couple of years now and next to my jigging outfits its my go to rod everytime.
i have mine fitted with a saltiga 4000h which im very pleased with and spooled up with 30lb bionic braid, i regularly fish longtail tuna and gts and have to have the drag almost locked up to beat the sharks. they are a great all round performer and i have found it to be very robust and works a good range of surface lures well. good fishing
