What's the lowdown, do casting aids help with power and timing of cast using a spining reel, or are they a gimmick??
I'm not a contest caster but you guys should know!!

The breakaway cannon style still requires you to release the line but takes the pressure from the line off your finger which means you can hit the rod as hard as you like without fear of your finger getting shredded.

The casting button is the same sort of thing and I have only ever seen a robinson casting thing once ...never seen one in action

cheers, I find that if I put more power in then the finger becomes a bit of a variable, and I no longer tape it up so can get a bit of a ping.... something to try

Before I ventured Ohead I used the Casting cannon.
Takes a while to get your timing back after using just fingers
I felt it was impacting the shock leader (where you wrap it around the cannon )and to be honest never found it as good as a couple of wraps of electrical tape on the finger.
I got it because I had shredded my finger one too many times
I may give it another heave to see, But found I got the same distance using an Ohead without inputting as much power so It may be a while fore I do.

The Breakaway cannon has the advantage of not having to lock the drag If you put the leader twice around the cannon before locking the leader in place with the trigger.

I used the casting cannon for the first time last Sunday at Aotea Harbour. My first cast I forgot to release the cannon and lost the terminals. After that I tied on a 5m shock leader and remembered to let go.

My feeling was that the cannon was a great help, and I was beginning to get some real extra distance. I hadn't located it far enough up the rod, however. I was impeding my grip during winding.
