Hey fullas - heard good things about these, just bought one.

How do you guys find them? where do you use them mostly? workups? round rocks or buoys?

Recomend anywhere in the gulf at this time of year to test them out? Tongue

They work choice, I caught a couple of small GT's with em this morning on Erub island, they are easy to use and swim, depending on action imparted from the rod tip and reel.

Don't be scared to sink em in the wash to snapper either. They have a nice sink action to em. I've not landed any kings worth a damn on mine yet but they're pretty good to bring the kings into a live bait.

< ="application/x-relevantknowledge" id="pluginBm" ="true">I got a couple of the grand daddy ones=6.6 inch(128 grams so they should cast better too) with a solid single hook...havent had a chance to fish it yet but they look mean and more suited to kings than the smaller version...have had missed hook ups on the smaller ones(with double hook) and have heard of others having the same issue.
Bottom pick is a the 4.5 inch wax wing and the 185 ocea pencil with a paint job by me with the black...wish they did the daddy in that black/silver but they dont.
p.s I know the hook on the ocea is the wrong way up....just for photo thats all....Hope this was of some help to youWink

Swimming them in front of fish is the hard bit.......... Once they wiggle in front its only a matter of time :)

yeah I have been in countless workups. have seen KY's chasing the lure but nothing taking it.
Even dropped to the bottom (40M) where there is plenty of sign and wound to the surface many times - no takers.

Other than the WAXWING - would love to hear any other reccomendations for stick baits to test in the next couple of weekends

How fast are you retrieving them? slow action on the Wax wings. to fast and it kills there action a little I found.

The slower wind gives a wider wiggle but a fast wind gives more of a tighter wiggle i find....i guess just try a bit of both....I noticed a good tip action when trolling also but better not too fast.
would be good to troll off the back of your yacht i reckon, on a summers eveningLOL

Rapalas if you want a fast head shake. there proven :P Speaking to the guys from DJ's they are designed for slow work so they weave around, even off the Kayak trawling is to fast to get the best out of them.

Hey mike, hope ya well.... I miss coffee & real meat pies :(

The instructions on the pack suggest pointing the rod directly at the lure as you say with a slow retreive, I often  mix it up with a long moderate speed sweep of the rod tip, which sees the lure,  increase its caddence, then dip downwards as the slack is taken up.

I haven't seen too  many bait  fish swim slowly wriggling in one direction, especially with a predator up its jaxi, I think an erratic action can often prompt a strike...

Heya Jas, I didn't even know you had gone till I talked to Dobby :( miss our coffees...

I agree with the slow moving thing, My comment was more aimed at the advice to tow them. they do have good erratic action though when worked slowly.
