Need to service my 10K...

Do Shimano NZ offer a "Platinum Service" like Shimano US? Where you send the reel and pay a flat rate of $50 where they service the reel and replace anything that needs attention... Bearings and other internal wear parts etc...

I should add this isn't across the board for the Shimano Range, it is something they offer for the flagship model i.e The Stella Series...

Doesn't apply to other reels from my knowledge.

Any one got a current price for a 10K service?

Is Swordfish Steve servicing Stella's? (I would like to give my money to the smaller business if possible, pay it forward Wink)

Hi guys - Shimano USA deal with the public direct when it comes to servicing reels - We only deal with account holders aka - retailers. We have our set pricing + parts for retailers.

mate ring shimano nz and ask them, I have a lot of money invested in shimano gear but have never heard of this service in NZ. would be nice if they did over here, after all with a 10yr warranty which is awesome I would want one of their own doing my gears, after all when does the warranty become void? who is to say a person doing the service is qualified to do so.

Hey Nomis,

From memory I thought it was $50 but it is actually $30 "Platinum Service", thanks for correcting this Embarrassed

Check the dudes invoices in the link...

I was thinking how insanely good the deal is for $30USD, when they are replacing worm gears, pinion bearings etc for no charge... Then a sticky drag, back to the service department and replaced washers etc again no charge. The US guys seem to swear by the service from the Shimano.

I didn't know Shimano US dealt direct with customers etc... Is Shimano servicing in NZ done through shops/retailers?

I would say the parts done free of charge would have been done as a warranty not as a normal service cost due to wear and tear ( yes worm drives / gears / bearings etc wear and tear ) every reel is done as a case by case scenario no hard fast rule as every one uses there reel differntly and all get treated and looked after differently by anglers.

My guess would be they pulled this apart and found a "warranty issue " that had in turn caused damage to other parts in the reel ie - the pinion bearing etc which they have done free of charge, and cleaning out the drag system is part of a normal service on any spin reel.

We do Service Shimano reels here @ Shimano NZ HQ - however we only deal with our account holders / retailers and its up to them where they get reels serviced as some stores have someone onsite that does it, other use 3rd parties such as us. You can request for your reel to be sent here through your retailer how ever some stores have other agreements with reel repairers out there.

PM me if you got any questions regarding servicing RAP

I think Douglas johnson as the NZ agent are pretty clear about using an ' authorised service agent" anything other than this will void your warranty, Hopefully Kezza will put down the new toys he gets to play with and fill us in...... Personally I cant see how the market size in NZ would  allow for a platnium service, I did notice that Shimano reels in Aus come with a DJ warranty card inside, iS DJ the agent for Australia as well kezza? If so maybe the size of the 2 markets could warrant such an offer?

This is a bit of a mis-understanding on my part... I have always maintained my own kit, but I figured Shimano had a service department with reel tech's like in other countries you could send reels for servicing, hence asking the original question... I didn't know reel servicing was organised via a retailer etc. Thanks for clearing this up Nomis Thumbs Up

Either way them US fullah's are on a winner! Even the little Shimano badge on the knob being replaced for nada! Choice Cool

No problems mate - We do have a couple of Tech's here but like you say, they still need to come back to us through a retailer.

Steve at swordfish serviced my stellas while I was there for the boatshow.  Really nice guy and even gave me a lift back into town.  Found the dry bearing I was looking for right away. Thumbs Up
