I got my Kilwell ones through Bluewater Extreme in Tauranga. Just looked at their website and they don't seem to have an online shop anymore. Hunting & Fishing can supply the Kilwell units. Suss out what you need from the Kilwell website, then go to H&F and give them the part numbers of the bits you need for a quote.

What base's do you have? as this will dictate which poles you can use.

Measure the internal diameter of the tube, and give Kieron a call 0274861019 and he will be able to give you some options (Would go for the 15ft telescopic poles myself (if the ID of your bases will allow).

Does anyone import the SMITHS carbon outrigger poles into NZ, I brought some while in the US a while back, very nice much stiffer than the fiberglass and alloy poles and way lighter. pretty good price as well around $900US, unbolt the eyes and the are telescopic. http://cesmith.com/product/278/outriggers/56500B Just something different may be a good product to bring into NZ for someone if people are finding it hard to source them. Yes I thought that would be the case Kaveman, but could be a good option for someone wanting to import and be a distributor. The owner of the company told me he would ship them from Asia to save costs into NZ. Those riggers ReelRods makes sound good.

Sounds like a good deal. I sent a set of Smith Carbon poles home with the Rupps T Top bases http://www.ruppmarine.com/Top-Gun-Outriggers/Top-Gun-Bases/REVOLUTION-Top-Guns--NEW!-92.html When I eventually get home I want mine on the roof of the hard top, now I have just have to get a boat for my riggers, I think I may have this around the wrong way

I'm pretty good thanks. Our tender doesn't arrive till next week so I will give it a shot then. Seen some good tuna schools off San Remo and a nice one off St Tropez this afternoon but until the boat turns up I am stuck pushing a shammy around.

Hey 237billfisher
I have 2 x 14ft Kilwell stiff blanks only in Black, used for 2 seasons on my own trailer boat, they have the roller tips and should fit your 50mm tube bases, give me a call for a deal, would be ideal for your trailer boat, ph 021 975 471 steve

Unfortunately most of the outrigger setups on small boats are pretty much a waste of time and effort. Here's a quick list of the optimum set up
- riggers shouldn't flex under release load, release load should equal strike ie 33% of line class used - rigger tips should be at least level with the transom - rigger tips should be a minimum of twice as high as the highest rod tip you'll troll rods from, longer riggers are better - the tips of the outriggers should a minimum of one boat width away from the boat, longer is better
If you can't achieve that because mounting areas are too flimsy, or riggers are too expensive then options are just use angled rod holders in the T'Top of roof rocket launcher.
If you are using the same line class and trolling the same sized baits or lures as the bigger boats then you need the same performance from outriggers as the bigger boats. In fact you generally need stiffer outriggers as trailer boats often troll faster than bigger boats and because they are less stable you need more stiffness in the riggers so the lures don't get whipped out of the water.
Hope this makes sense. Getting the right riggers isn't easy for smaller boats. The only company I know of that has tackled the problem is Precision in Australia. Their graphite riggers are the lightest stiffest outriggers I've seen.

Peter, You say the tip of the rigger should be level with the transom . If using tag lines where should the tip be in relationship to the transom

That is if you using taglines. Are there still some not using them?

so from reading this, I could get a basic outrigger set up by dropping in some bent butt outriggers to my outer rocket launchers? Or would I be better getting some side rigging boom poles? I basically want to widen the spread a bit having trolled end of last summer with no riggers, sometimes 4 rods for albies, I'm surprised I didn't get tangles.
I'm keen to have a go at something bigger so had been thinking about 'riggers - but want to spend bare minimum...and have the least fussy set up possible...any thoughts on how much it would cost to set myself up? I've got a 5.5 with a hardtop with rocket launchers on it.

so why does the tip have to be in line with the transom

If the order of 'pivot' points ie rod tips if you are trolling off the rod tip, or rigger tips if the line is coming off the riggers should be the same as the order of the lures are spread out behind the boat. If you can ahieve that no lures tangle and you can do very tight U turns without tangling. Just makes life a whole lot easier.

Thanks apart from the turning circle etc, i take it that a 2.5mtr wide boat will require outriggers about 5.1 mtrs long stiff, with tag lines attached

It depends on where they are mounted, ie riggers mounted on the sides would need to be longer than if mounted on the roof. Riggers mounted further forward longer than those mounted further back. The thing about riggers you can run the halyards from the tip to the base, but not above the tip. :)

Word of Warning.... If you are going to drop bent Butt style drop in riggers into your Rocket launchers then make sure that either the pins in the RL bases are extra strengthned or put a forstay onto the Outriggers and tie forward. There is an incredible amount of force taken at the base level if you dont and you will pop the welded pins no problems at all .... as I experienced the hardway ! ! !! lol.

agree, i had the same thing happen. replaced the pins with flat plate welded pieces that are way stronger.

yip had the same thing happen with my teaser set up, you can always drill a hole and put a bolt in, have to agree about the plates though, all my rod holders I had custom made have about a 20mm high plate welded in place, this just for the 80's and yip super strong
