New bait from the RAL Custom House...
NZ Paua, full "foiled" finish using real shell... A few hours went into this one. 100g unrigged.
No amount of my poor photography will get this to 'pop' like it does in natural sunlight. I will produce these in limited numbers as the shell is very expensive and adds to the over all price of the bait. Making up another for NOMAD NZ, and then will have some others ready in a few weeks/months...
This bait is destined to fish for some BIG tuna in the USA. Make sure you pop by the Synit display at the Boat Show as Graeme will have the lure and we need to keep him honest.

So I'm guessing these won't come under my 'topwater on a budget' thread?
In all seriousness though that is a work of art, probably the best looking lure I've ever seen. Massive

Thanks for the comments guys,
I really need my head in the right space to make these, not something I could do every day, day in, day out... Gotta be in the 'mood'
But the end result is nice, and built on a great swimming lure. I have stepped up to 2.0mm wire on these baits as Ben P. was stretching the 1.6mm on our Kingy's... The angler the bait is destined for is looking to target Tuna in the 400lb range on casting gear.... No small effort, but something I want to be part of if it all comes together.
I will have some poppers at the show for Kurt form Poppin' Tonga to pick up and test, these have had the wire size upgrade also but to 2.4mm wire for those angry GT's. The 2.4mm wire is on the limit of what I can physically bend, unsure if there are any lures out there running wire this big... But these fish mean business, so I respect that and want it to show in the product.
I was hoping to get some new styles to Kurt for testing but time has been tight, and I have been concentrating on stick baits...

That lure is just plain gorgeous... hell, you'd almost be too scared to use it let it get banged up... that'd be a crime on such a beautiful piece of work!

They look awesome Sam! I have been using the stickbaits you tuned for the Synit Lalandi's and I'm really impressed with thier swimming action. One was lost to a Kingfish a few weeks ago that busted us off in 17m of water. Keep them coming bro...

Finished up a couple more, one was made for a International collector of Paua/Abalone lures...
The Silver/Red eyed lure is available...
As you can see I carry the shell right around the lure, not just on the sides...

Hi Clem,
Still in testing... Made some small changes to the lure ballast, now closer to 185-190g. Swam it the other day with ST76 5/0's and they are perfect, but I really want to see it swimming singles... But with the larger lures you lose hook coverage using singles...Catch 22.
Will update on FB as I progress with the lure

Mike you have the very first one made in your hands, so they have evolved a little since then... Always trying to perfect the process and do justice to the shell. I have more shell arriving in a few days so I will be making a couple more for an order, be good to get away from the airbrush for an afternoon.
As for rigging, I like it with the R2S Shogun In-line hooks, in either 7/0 or 8/0 they really let it do it's own thing without dampning any action IMO. The lure you have has been wired for a JOBU however, but just twist it some more for in-lines. If you want to use trebles 2/0 to 4/0 66's depending on the amount of hook exposure you want.
As for the popper, well it's still in testing and needs destroying before going any further... GT testing is up first. Merv also wants one for Bluefin so you guys are first on the list!
