Thanks for sharing the photo's Kyle, hazard a guess and say it was a day time drop, no other reason than boats trying to raise him all afternoon yesterday for no joy so he may have turned it off during the fight time? , could be wrong, great pics thanks for sharing mate.

Fish don't implode or explode because they never hold there breath. Only the air in the swim bladder will blow up (expand),Because of the sudden pressure depth change. as fish can not say " OUCHIE" they tend to swim up and down slowly thereby adjusting there swim bladder to the changing depth change and can safely swim up and down with ease and never have to say "ouch" when swimming and hunting for food when there air bladder expands. <ºj))))><

That's what I mean about getting the bait to say 500m would the bait have to be dropped slowly so as not to blow up it's swim bladder or do the lil bait species not have a large enough swim bladder? Maybe a separate topic do as not to infect this thread is needed Now was it a livie or A dead bait ?

As you drop the swim bladder compresses. It expands as it comes up surely.
By the way congrats and huge respect

A jack mack can drop to Puka depths, like 300m , easy peasy several times without problems. As they drop they compress, not a problem for them, and as they are not at that depth long enough to adjust to the pressure at that depth, when they come back up again, they do not need to de-pressurise. We used to have a cut bait and a live mackerel as standard bluenose/puka baits out at white, and the jackmacks can do repeated drops no problems at all.

baits for deep drops.... so much easier to contol when they are dead but the best baits I have dropped for swords and live ones has to be squid caught during the night,

We saw Primetime fishing off the Garden Patch area (along with several others, including Hook N Bull) fishing during the day time. They may have fished all night, too. Just John and the deckie, I believe.

Can anyone give us some advice for catching broadbill in the daytime, rigs etc. Some info on utube but mostly out of the US. Looks like the kiwis have it worked out.
