Use dishwashing liquid without any water for a min or so then rinse off with water. Works for me.

The key is to use cold water and a citrus based hand cleaner.

The product that fishing essentials put out is also pretty good but using the above is a cheap and effective option that actually removes the smell rather than masking it like toothpaste does

Avoid using hot or even warm water as it opens the pores of the skin and ends up driving the stink in! Dead

I spray my hands with spray and wipe, then rinse with tap water. Probably not recommended by the company, but they aren't fishermen.

Spray and wipe does the trick. Just spray on your hands then rinse it off. Hasn't killed me yet, so I guess it's pretty safe.

Lol, I just used normal soap and water, if they smell afterwards oh well.  Goes away in a few days.

Luckily everyone I live and work with is not bothered by it.

Not that they go out of their way to smell my hands.

I found this hard to believe when I got it as a present, but this stainless steel "soap" is the best smell get ridofer that I've ever had.

To test it I went and minced up some old pilchards for berley, the biggest test of any hand cleaner. You rub your hands with it and smell gone. Fecked if I know how it works, but it does.

Forget all of the other ones...I have fished off the bricks for 20 years and use bonito(skip jack tuna) every time i go....its the worst bait for getting the smell away, far worse than pillies....i have used that crc soap for getting rid of the smell but the best thing to come my way for this sort of thing....hands down are these=They are anti bacterial and contain tea tree oil...they also act as a fish attractant...I put one sheet in my pocket and wipe my hands after every bait i put on....when they get dry,i pour a little water on and they keep going.......only these will kill the odour but you had better like the smell of tea tree oil! I had food poisoning once from bonito bait.....shiiiite my brains out and then pewked too,so be careful with eating with bait ridden hands....you can buy these from k mart(they won an award for this product)....AWESOME.

+1 for Stainless steel soap, The only problem with it is that it gives me a headache trying to figure out how on earth it works.

Date Posted: 10 Feb 2012 at 8:00am
Oh yeah forgot about those stainless steel soaps. Have one at home that I use every once in a while. Probably better kept in the car as easy to use to clean up before the drive home after those days on the rock.

How does it work????

The theory is that the sulfur from the fish is attracted to and binds with one or more of the metals in stainless steel. Formation of such compounds is what makes stainless steel stainless, after all. Fish (as well as onions and garlic) contain amino acid sulfoxides, which form sulfenic acids, which then form a volatile gas (propanethiol S-oxide), which forms sulfuric acid upon exposure to water. These compounds are responsible for burning your eyes while cutting onions and also for their characteristic scent. If the sulfur compounds bind to the steel, then the odor is removed from your fingers. But following this principle....my stainless steel soap itself doesnt stink like fish after such binding....hmmm

I have found orange skins are fantastic, eat orange in the morning, keep skins in a plastic bag with a bit of water so they dont dry out, rub skins on hands when get back to car, smell gone, hands smell like oranges.

That said, i am only getting rid of fish handling smell, not pillies/bait smells.

old fishermen never die, they just smell that way

baking soda water and juice of half a lemon. or you can add 2 drops of vanilla essence if you want to smell like a girl.

I usually use a handful of laundry powder. Pretty harsh, but it really scrubs the sh*t off your hands. Not so good in the small cuts you always seem to get from a days fishing tho - stings a bit !!
