Have read a lot of good things about JB hollow overseas, but has anyone used the solid for casting or jigging. I see they use multicolour, in yards thou.

Is there any advantage for the hollow other than splicing? Is it the fact that hollow packs down so is actually labelled size is more so the standard thichkness as it breaks well above such, and the solid is a lot closer to actual breaking strain?
The solid seems to be cheaper. Is the solid a standard 8 carrier dyneema weave as I see the hollow is 12 I think?

Not going to be splicing as I just want a full spool on a stella 8000 and can't decide whether I should buy solid or hollow for casting. Thinking 40 or 60 if hollow is the way or perhaps 50 if I was to go solid. Does anyone know how much line would go on the 8000?

Do you think actually need that much line for stickbaiting, was thinking you might get away with a heavier line as you might not be using as much.

Any enlightenment on the 100 Qs appreciated. Cheers

I use the JB solid in 100lb for popping,  it is nice and soft, but with my limited use so far it seems to wind knot more than the powerpro I replaced and is a bit flatter than I expected.

this link gives all Stella spools capabilities for JB hollow, JB solid is a little less(hollow packs tighter than solid)
Great brand for jigging and popping imo

Fishntips I got approx 280y of JB 65lb solid on my 8000 love it so nice to cast no need for gloves and great to tie. I have Jb 100lb  (yellow) hollow on my 18000s and it is great also. Seems strange but the 100lb is thinner than the 80lb hollow.
However a mate has JB ( white ) 100lb hollow on his reel and it is thinner than the yellow I have ?? and you seriously need gloves with that it will slice ya bad. As to how much you need may depend on the type of water you fish the amount of pressur you can exert with the rod you have ?

That's great. Thanks guys. Do you think the JB 60 hollow will be big enough for the 8000 capacity wise?

The JM Hollow 80lb is a 16 carrier braid whereas the hollow 100lb is a 12 carrier.  That makes the 80lb thicker than the 100lb FP.  Unsure how many carriers in the solid though, looks like 8.  Some of the US poppers are using JB Hollow because of its reliability.  I think the major benefit for jiggers or poppers is the ability to top shot short lenghts seemlessly without loss of strenght.   The braid is uper smooth, strong and RELIABLE!
Jigs Direct have both JB Solid and Hollow in stock.  Some of the charter operators here are loving the braid.

So a bit of a how long is a piece of string question but do you think 200m would be enough string on your reel for fishing most shallower regions around NZ for kingfish on popper/stickbait?

thanks Boulder, good to know. I could only get my hand on the multi colour hollow in 60lb 300yds. I read that all braids are essentially white as they can't actually colour the pe line, essentially they add a colour coating. Probably why the white is so popular. Castaway

I have been using JB solid for popping for a while now ,in the 50 , 80 , 100 , lb I have not had a problem with it , nor with wind knots ,I use a FG knot to leader , so far so good . find what you are happy with , there is a lot of good braid out there for popping and jigging . I chase GTs on a Saragosa 8000 , and I have not had to worry about enough line [ 50 lb ] JB.

We use 100 and 60lb on our Stella 10000's seems no point in buying the 80lb as it is thicker than the 100lb, great braid, good price and seems to last very well and casts good, not sure on capacity on 8000 or 10000 but we have never had an issues with not enough string, crew have caught Yellow fin over 50kegs and never any danger of being spooled, should be fine a average Kingi. After a bit of use it is hard to tell the difference in size between the 60 and 100lb, I pulled two reels out the other day and could not pick the difference in size. Good stuff you will not regret buying. I think the colored braid is a little thicker? I will say that splicing it is a pain in the butt and the older it gets it is impossible. We have started using the 100lb as backing on our Tiagra 50WRSL's get about 1100m and a 200m 80lb top shot.
