Hey there, just wondering how important the gear ratio / line retrieve is for stick baiting and/or popping when considering a reel? Does anyone have an optimum? I see the saltist spin reels for example are up at 53'' per crank and 6.2 ratio - Is this an overkill (while playing the fish)?
Thanks

In my opinion mate very important, especially for stick baiting when retrieving line in between rod sweeps.

High geared reels shouldn't be a problem when winding in the fish if you use the rod to lift the fish then wind in the line while dropping the rod and repeat. If you want to winch the fish in the with the reel........ well good luck Wink

Cheers yeah that makes sense. Another query I had was is there any disadvantage using a long cast spool type spin reel for stick-baiting/popping? Its just I have the opportunity to grab a Daiwa Emblem cheap.
