Just received a sample pack of Prosele casting shock leader yesterday. This is the new product that YEEHAA is going to bring into the country shortly. Just to share it with you guys on the form, how fine this stuff is......I am very impressed with it. For the guys who are using FG know this leader is awesome. I have been using Varivas shock leaders for my casting and they are super nice, but I think this leader material is even better. Given that leader material is often used to provide abrasion protection at the business end... Is thin diameter material going to provide as much protection as slightly thicker material??? I wholely get the argument that it can induce more strikes as its less visable, but succinctly is thinner always better? ------------- "I love standing by the ocean and just knowing what its for" |

I see what you are getting at and personally I think tackle technology has got to a point where its going to be hard to introduce a product that radically increases the amount of fish we catch. I haven't used it but I think that Prosele line fits into that category, it might thinner, tougher and good for casting but is it going to land you more fish? I doubt it.......... as it happens I'm useless with money and like using the 'best' so I'll probably still buy it  ------------- Science for the mind and Art for the soul. |

the thinner, stronger, softer are the way all the line producers are aiming at the time. same as the reels and rods. lighter, more drag, stronger. back the days who could believe blue fin tuna and marlin can be caught on the spin reels and rod like jigging rods? Definitely keen to give a length a try from the rocks, find I need a good length (4-5 m) of leader for abrasion resistance and thinner will be better for casting. Dunno about more fish, my experience to date has been either the fish follow the lure and stop or they just smash it. |

I have been using the "YGK Galis Castman Absorber" leader and found it to be good value in both price and performance. I recently used the 170lb leader, it measure's around 1.17mm (can't remember the exact measurement) as I left the spool with Kurt in Vava'u, but the 100lb leader I have in front of me is 0.86mm. It "stretches" nicely to absorb shock and knots well. Comes in 50m spools. The FG knot bites well and holds perfect on the leader material, I use 6-7 criss-crosses for a small knot, I am sure it could go smaller and hold just as well. Just another leader to add to the mix.
